1. When is Robis 3.5G service going to be launched?


A. Robi subscribers will start experiencing Robis 3.5G service from October 2013
onward.
2. What is 3.5G?
3.5G is the third generation of mobile communication technology that will allow
customers to surf the Internet with speeds of more than three times faster than 2G
technology.
With a 3G phone/device and access to the Robis 3G network you can make video calls,
watch live TV, access high speed Internet and enjoy live streaming at never before
speeds.
3. Is 3.5G unique from 3G? Why?
3.5G is the enhanced version of 3G that offers higher mobile Internet speed of up to
21Mbps, while 3G offers mobile Internet speed of up to only 384Kbps.
4. On what factors does 3G/3.5G speed depend?
a) The access device (handset/tablet/USB modem).
b) Customer location/network coverage.
c) Time of the day.
d) Number of simultaneous users at the same location.
e) Internet bandwidth of the web service/website the customer is accessing.

5. What is the difference between 2G, 3G and 3.5G?


A. 3.5G offers higher Data throughput compare to 3G. Customers will get better
experience from it. 2.5G describes the state of wireless technology and capability
usually associated with EDGE. The second generation or 2G-level of wireless is usually
identified as Global System for Mobile (GSM) service and the third generation or 3Glevel is usually identified as Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service (UMTS). Each
generation provides a higher data rate and additional capabilities. With Robi 3.5G
technology, customers will get much higher Data bandwidth capability of up to 21Mbps.
6. What type of new services will be available?
Robi 3.5G services will let consumers:
o Browsing web pages at super high speed.
o Enjoy smooth and uninterrupted live streaming of music & video.
o Download large files at dazzling speed.
o Experience interactive HD games like never before.
o Make video calls with your family & friends wherever you are with your 3G phone.
o Watch live cricket/football matches on your 3G mobile phone.
7. When Robi cover all over Bangladesh?
Robi will be launching 3.5G services across Bangladesh gradually. However as each area,
city, district comes under coverage it will be notified via our website and on-ground
activities.

8. Do I need to replace my existing SIM card to avail 3.5G service?


No, your existing SIM card will work absolutely fine till the time you have a 3G
compatible phone & connected to Robis 3G network.
9. Is Robi charging its 3.5G user according to Data Usage or Time Duration?
Final product plan and pricing will be communicated as and when it is launched.
10. Will the 15% VAT be included for Robis 3.5G service?
Yes.
11. How would I know if I am in 3G coverage?
On most handsets, the 3G icon 3G or H will appear on your screen to indicate
accessibility. When you move out of a 3G coverage area, the icon will change to E or
G and you will be automatically transferred to the 2G network. Your phone will
continue to work irrespective of your movement between 2G and 3G areas.
12. How do I connect to Robi 3G network?
First, subscribe to the 3.5G service. Second, select the 3G network on your mobile
handset network settings.
13. What does it mean by E, 3G and H or 3.5G as network symbol in Mobile devices?
When you see E, you are on the 2G network and when you see 3G/H or 3.5G
you are on the 3G network.
14. Do I need to configure any special settings on my phone to use 3G?
You will have to change your handset network/data setting to either 3G or WCDMA.
(Depending on handset model)

15. Is 5MHz spectrum of Robi ensuring the same service as compared to 10MHz
spectrum?
Service quality is independent of the size of the spectrum; therefore customers will
have the great 3.5G experience on Robi network.
16. What will happen if I am outside the 3G coverage area?
You will be automatically switched to the 2G network.
17. Can I get 3G service while Im roaming?
You will be able to access 3G networking while roaming.
18. Can regular USB modems be used for it?
As long as it is a 3G enabled device you will be access uninterrupted Robi 3.5G service.
19. How would I know if my handset is 3G compatible?
When you are in a Robi 3G network area and if your handset shows 3G or H on top
of the screen next to your network signal bars means that your phone is 3G compatible
and you can use the services. You must also ensure that the phone settings are not set
to 2G only, alternatively you can also check on your handset manufacturers website.
20. Can I use Skype and make Skype video calls on Robis 3.5G service?
You just need to download and install Skype onto your 3G connected device and you
are ready to go.
21. How can I activate the 3.5G services?
This will be communicated during launch.

22. Can I deactivate 3G?


Yes, you can. You simply call Robis Call Centre (123) from your Robi phone number.
23. What type of products we are offering for customer availing 3G services?
This will be communicated during launch.
24. I am not a Robi user, how can I switch to Robis 3.5G services on the same mobile
number?
New users will need to buy a new Robi connection to use the Robi 3.5G service.
25. Will I get a separate postpaid bill for 3G connection? The charges for 3G usage will
be combined with other phone charges in the same bill.

26. Can I use 3.5G services with my laptop? Yes, you can use a 3G phone as a modem
and connect it with your laptop to browse the Internet at high speeds. Alternatively,
you can also use a 3G USB modem.
27. Do I need to configure any special settings on my phone to use 3G?
There is no special setting required for 3G. Only ensure that you are on Robi 3G network
once the 3.5G service is activated.
28. To make a video call, do I need a specific type of 3G handset or I can use my
existing 3G handset?
To make a video call, you will require a video calling supported handset.
29. How much data do I use when making a video call?
No data gets consumed for video calls. Video calls uses the 3G voice channels and
therefore you will be charged on per minute basis based on the video call rate plan.

30. Can I make a video call to a 3G customer on another network?


Yes it is possible and this service will be communicated once it is available.
31. I am not able to make a video call despite having a video call enabled 3G handset
and 3G network coverage.
Please ensure that your calling party also has a 3G video call enabled handset and is in
3G network coverage too.
32. Is the 3.5G service available for both Prepaid & Postpaid?
