INTRODUCTION TO MODERN BIOLOGY II

BIOLOGY 2312/2112

FALL 2005
BIOL 2312 is a continuation of the modern biology series. Emphasis is placed on the physiology and anatomy of
animal organ systems and their relationship to the overall function of the organism.

Textbook: Biology, Raven et al., 7th Edition, McGraw -Hill, 2004.

Schedule: Lecture – Monday & Wednesday; 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm (See attached Lecture Outline)
Workshops – BIOL 2112-001 & -002 Wednesday, 4:00 pm - 4:50 pm
BIOL 2112-003 & -004 Friday, 11:00 am - 11:50 am

Grading: The course grade for Biology 2312 will be determined as follows:

60% - Lecture Exams


20% - Comprehensive final exam
20% - Workshop quizzes

Course letter grades will be assigned according to the following schedule:


A: 100- 89.6 C: 79.5-69.6 F: < 59.5
B: 89.5-79.6 D: 69.5-59.5

‘Plus’ and 'Minus' grades will be assigned.


The Lecture Exams will consist of four progress exams. The exams will
consist of both subjective and objective questions. See attached lecture schedule for the
dates of these exams. MAKEUP EXAMS ARE NOT ROUTINELY GIVEN!
Only under extenuating circumstances and upon prior discussion with the instructor
will a makeup test be considered.

The Workshop, BIOL 2112, will be used as a review period for the material covered in the
lecture. Weekly quizzes will be given at the end of the workshop period. The format of
these exams will be short written/essay type exams. Attendance at the workshop is required.
No makeup workshop quiz will be given. The lowest workshop quiz grade may be dropped.
The grade for BIOL 2112 workshop will be the same as that for BIOL 2312 as determined above.

The last date to withdraw from the course with WP/WF is Oct. 20, 2005.

Dr. Friedman is available to students before and after each scheduled lecture. Dr. Friedman is also available in his
office, FN3.116, 972-883-4157, or by email at TBA. Teaching assistants are also available for the students. Check with
the TA for their availability.
