Following our successful

O n this Sunday that fol-

lows the Solemnity of
the Epiphany, we are cele-
brating the Baptism of the
Lord. This was the first act of
his public life, recounted in
all four Gospels. Having
reached the age of about 30,
Jesus left Nazareth, went to
the River Jordan and, in the midst of a great crowd
of people, had himself baptized by John. Mark the
Evangelist writes: "And when he came up out of the
water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and
the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a
voice came down from heaven, "You are my be-
loved Son; in you I am well pleased'" (Mk 1: 10-
11). These words "You are my beloved Son" reveal
what eternal life is: it is the filial relationship with
God, just as Jesus lived it and as he revealed and
gave it to us.
This morning, in keeping with tradition, I have
administered the Sacrament of Baptism to 13
newborn babies in the Sistine Chapel. The cele-
brant usually questions the parents and godparents:
"What do you ask of God's Church for your chil-
dren?". At their response, "Baptism", he replies,
"And what does Baptism grant us?". "Eternal life,"
they answer. And this is the marvellous reality: a
human person, through Baptism, is integrated into
Jesus' unique and singular relationship with the Fa-
ther so that the words resonating from heaven upon
the Only-Begotten Son may become true for every
man and every woman who is reborn by water and
by the Holy Spirit: you are my son, my beloved.
Dear friends, how great is the gift of Baptism! If
we were to take this fully into account our lives
would become a continual "thank you". What a joy
for Christian parents, who have seen a new creature
come into being from their love, to carry the baby to
the baptismal font and see him or her reborn from
the womb of the Church, for a life without end! It is
a gift, a joy, but also a responsibility! Parents, in
fact, together with godparents, must educate their
children in accordance with the Gospel.
Summer Camp for Kids at
Holy Innocents, we now
announce something spe-
cial for girls between the
ages of 10 to 14 years:
HOLY INNOCENTS GIRLS CLUB.
Meetings will be every third Saturday from
9:30 to 11:30 AM, at Holy Innocents Church.
Lots of fun activities, classes on manual arts,
sewing, cooking and manners. The cost per girl
for the entire 9 months is only $10. For more

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING

on Natural Family Planning taught by the
Couple to Couple League. You’ll learn a
method of family planning that is safe, ef-

¡Qué grande es el don del Bautismo!
E
n este domingo, que sigue
a la solemnidad de la
Epifanía, celebramos el
Bautismo del Señor. Fue el
primer acto de su vida pública,
narrado en los cuatro
evangelios. Al llegar a la edad
de casi treinta años, Jesús dejó
Nazaret, fue al río Jordán y, en
medio de mucha gente, se hizo bautizar por Juan.
El evangelista san Marcos escribe: «Apenas salió
del agua, vio rasgarse el cielo y al Espíritu bajar
hacia él como una paloma. Se oyó una voz del
cielo: "Tú eres mi Hijo amado, mi
predilecto"» (Mc 1, 10-11). En estas palabras: "Tú
eres mi Hijo amado", se revela qué es la vida
eterna: es la relación filial con Dios, tal como
Jesús la vivió y nos la ha revelado y dado.
Esta mañana, según la tradición, en la capilla
Sixtina administré el sacramento del Bautismo a
trece recién nacidos. A los padres, a los padrinos y
a las madrinas, el celebrante les pregunta
habitualmente: "¿Qué pedís a la Iglesia de Dios
para vuestros hijos?"; ante su respuesta: "El
Bautismo", él añade: "Y el Bautismo, ¿qué os
da?". "La vida eterna", responden. He aquí la
realidad admirable: la persona humana, mediante
el Bautismo, es introducida en la relación única y
singular de Jesús con el Padre, de manera que las
palabras que resonaron desde el cielo sobre el Hijo
unigénito llegan a ser verdaderas para todo
hombre y toda mujer que renace por el agua y por
el Espíritu Santo: Tú eres mi hijo amado.
Queridos amigos, ¡qué grande es el don del
Bautismo! Si nos diéramos plenamente cuenta de
ello, nuestra vida se convertiría en un "gracias"
continuo. ¡Qué alegría para los padres cristianos,
que han visto nacer de su amor una nueva criatura,
llevarla a la pila bautismal y verla renacer en el
seno de la Iglesia a una vida que jamás tendrá fin!
Don, alegría, pero también responsabilidad. En
efecto, los padres, juntamente con los padrinos,
deben educar a los hijos según el Evangelio.

BAUTIZOS DE INFANTES, GRATIS
Y con el fin de motivar a los padres católicos a bautizar a
sus hijos cuanto antes después del nacimiento, no se pedirá
ningún donativo para los bebés que tienen sólo un mes o
menos.
Los padres tienen obligación de hacer que los hijos sean
bautizados en las primeras semanas; lo más pronto después
del nacimiento … Canon 867.1 [Derecho Canónico de la
Iglesia Católica].

CLUB PARA CHICAS
Invitamos a las jovencitas de la parroquia de las
edades de 10 a 14 años a formar parte de nuestro
CLUB para chicas. Las reuniones serán cada tercer
sábado del mes de 9:30am a 11:30am
y seguirán reuniéndose hasta el mes de
mayo. Aprenderán artes manuales, a
cocinar, coser, modales y reglas de
urbanidad, y charlas de fe. El costo por
los nueve meses será solo $10 dólares.

NO TODAS LAS ‘IGLESIAS
CATÓLICAS’ LO SON
Puede ser que el templo se mira como
un templo Católico o que tienen allí
una imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe o
de otros Santos Católicos. También
puede ser que el llamado ‘Padre’ se viste
como sacerdote y que allí dan ‘Misas’.
Nada de esto garantiza que son
Católicos verdaderos en comunión con
el Papa Benedicto.
Tristemente, hay un numero creciente
de sectas nuevas que insisten que son 'Católicas' pero
rechazan la autoridad del Papa y las demás doctrinas
Católicas. Engañan a la gente no instruida que va en busca de
los Sacramentos de la Iglesia. Muchas de estas sectas son
‘negocios’ más que nada y así se están aprovechando de la
gente crédula. Los señores encargados de aquellas sectas,
aunque se visten de ‘Padres,’ no están interesados en la
salvación del alma.
¡Cuidado con aquellas sectas! Y anote bien: un Católico
debe asistir a Misa y recibir los Sacramentos solamente en
una parroquia ‘registrada’ con la Iglesia Católica, Apostólica
y Romana. Si no, los llamados ‘Sacramentos’ recibidos no
son lícitos en los ojos de la Iglesia Católica, Apostólica y
Romana.
