Welcome

Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this

morning! So glad youre here. We worship together as a church family in
four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and
11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am.
If youd like to connect and learn more about this church, visit our Legacy
Room adjacent to the Sanctuary, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

Next StepS
As a city-center church, we cultivate relationships with the homeless
community in Orlando as one of the ways we follow Jesus example. One of
the ways we do that is by making new friends at a special First Pres holiday
tradition, the Jingle Jam in Jeans, hosted by Freddie Langston at 7pm on
December 23. Last year we shared a meal, sang carols and celebrated with
over 450 of our friends in the homeless community, and you and your
family can join in and share the joy! There will be special musical guests,
hot chocolate and cider, and lots of Christmas spirit.

TODAY
If youre a guest with us this
morning, or newer to the First
Pres family, please stop by our new
Legacy Room (located between the
Edington Ministry Center lobby
and the Sanctuary) for a cup of
coffee, so that we can welcome you
in person. Wed love to meet you
and answer any questions you may
have about the church. Anyone
wearing a blue name tag can help
you find it.

Today is the day! You can still get

tickets for our original Christmas
production, The Missing Gift.
Performances are at 4pm & 7pm
and tickets are $10 for adults.
Celebrate the holiday season and
bring friends! If youre planning
on being here tonight, dont forget
to bring your parking card for
validation, here at the church.

raditional Worship

From the third chapter of Genesis on, we are told hundreds of times
about the coming of the Messiah, the anointed One, who will redeem
all people and the whole created order. We learn that Christs work of
redemption extends beyond human beings. The whole earth and all of
creation will be recreated, made new. The revelation of John tells us that
there will be a new heaven and a new earth. The predictions of Jesus
birth are so exact and specific, they alone are testimony to the deity of
Christ. True words of prophecy from God can never be wrong in even
the slightest detail. In Deuteronomy we read that if the words of the
prophet do not come true, we need not pay heed, that person is not a
prophet from God. We can rest assured in the Scriptures, our Messiah
has come, is here now, and will come again. Phrases of the opening carol,
O Come, O Come Emmanuel, appear as early as the Middle Ages. It was
later codified and put into metrical form. John Mason Neale translated
the Latin into English in 1861 which is the text we sing this morning.
While the traditional tune may have come earlier in history, the first
documented manuscript was in 1561. Each verse highlights one aspect
of Christ proclaimed in prophecy. The tune sung this morning in the
Call to Worship, is about a month old!
