Business Card
Description:

A business card designed with a logo I made.

Date:
11/9/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 8
Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Indesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information.

Process:

I started by creating a logo that could be used for a business. The business I chose was an
orthodontist that I made up myself. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the logo. I made the
logo by using the shape tool and the line tool. I then saved the logo and opened it in Adobe
Indesign to create the actual business cards.
I decided to let the face go off the sides of the business card on both the left and right
because I felt like it looked better that way. I used the Times New Roman font for all my
contact information

A web page that I designed using text wrangler.

Acquire a working knowledge of CSS.
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot.

Process:

The first thing I had to do was create a logo using Illustrator. I took an idea I had before and
made the logo of a confused face. I then saved it and opened it in Text Wrangler. I then used
both CSS and HTML in order to create and design this webpage how I wanted it. I moved the
logo to the center of the page and I wrote text that described how I made this logo.

Montage

Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow.
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message.
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks.
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements.
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image.
Apply typography principles.
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size.
Select good quality images.

Process:

I made this using two photos that I found online. I placed the picture of the man thinking as
the background and then placed the picture of the missionary from The Book of Mormon
on top. I faded that picture into the circle that was already on the background. I wrote the
text and made sure it fit into the circle as well.

Logos
Description:

A few different ideas of logos for a made up company using Adobe Illustrator

Date:

10/31/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 8
Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.

Process:

I only used Illustrator for this. I thought it would be nice to include a star in all my logos
because of the name of the company. The first logo has a moon and a star together to make
a ring. I used only the shape tools to create the logos. I think that the simpler something is to
make the easier it is for people to comprehend it.

Event Ad
Description:

This is an event ad that I made using Microsoft Word

Date:

10/12/14

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 8

Comprehend image sizing.

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs.

Process:

I was only able to use Microsoft Word to create this event ad. I found this image from a
magazine and scanned it. I then opened it in Word and sized it appropriately. I made a
transparent box and then placed text over it. I kept the text on the left side so that it wouldnt
go over the ice sculpture.
