Sationery

Design Process
Description:
Full bleed business letterhead designed using a personally created logo.

Process:
I created the logo for Royal Event Planning using the pen tool to make different
shapes in Adobe Illustrator. With the logo, I wanted to capture the essence of a
classy, sleek, and elegant company, so I used the peacock as a symbol to reflect
that. I added a monochromatic color scheme using different shades of the color
blue. Once the logo was created, I opened a new InDesign document and placed
my logo .AI file into this document.
I positioned the placed logo in the top right corner of my letterhead. I then
placed the business contact information into a text box and positioned it on the
left hand side of the letterhead. I added in the line element at the top and the
bottom of the page to unify the information and to contrast with the curvy lines
in the logo. Lastly, I added a large version of the peacock logo as a watermark at
10% opacity.

Message:
The company Royal Event Planning is a formal event planning business. The
name of the business its self signifies that it is an elite and classy company
focused on providing professional services to its customers.

Business Cards

Design Process
Description:
Full bleed, duplex business cards designed using a personally created logo and
made to match the business stationery.

Process:
Using the logo for Royal Event Planning that was used for the stationery, I
designed business cards for Royal Event Planning. In my InDesign document, I
used the rectangle tool to create the front and back outline of my business card.
I then copied/pasted the logo and contact information from the stationery onto
the letterhead layout. I kept the logo and contact information about the same
size as the information on the letterhead, however I reversed the colors to add
contrast that still tied in with the branding of the company. I used similar lines in
the business card to help unify it with the letterhead.

Message:
The company Royal Event Planning is a formal event planning business. The
business card design is meant to stand out and reflect the sleek and elite
aspects of the business while conveying a profesional image.

Logos

Design Process
Description:
Three different logo designs for the same company, Cynthia Louise Boutique
using different color schemes.

Process:
This project was to create branding by designing logo in Illustrator. To make
the hat image and the high heel image, I found an image that I liked online and
traced it using the pen tool. I then used the direct select tool to manipulate
some of the curves to make them smoother looking. The other element in
each design is the typography. I made sure to choose fonts from contrasting
categories and it took much trial and error to find pairs that I liked. I also tried
getting some more contrast by changing the sizes of the words.

Message:
Cynthia Louise Boutique is a fun and classy place to shop. My target audience
for the logos is all women interested in shopping for stylish clothing.

Photodesign

Design Process
Description:
This project is to demonstrate good photography and image editing skills as well
as my ability to incorporate color into a poster layout with a photograph. I wanted
to create an appealing portfolio piece that displayed my photography as well as
my ability to use Photoshop.

Process:
Before I went and took photos for this project, I decided that I wanted to have
a triadic color scheme. I went and capture a quality photo with good light,
sharp focus, and nice composition. I used a Cannon camera from the library.
I then brought the photo into Photoshop and used these specific editing
techniques: levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. Then I designed
an 8.511 layout that included my photo, text, and repeating design elements.
I incorporated my color scheme by using small boxes and repeating lines
on the top and the bottom of the page. I matched the color scheme with the
photograph by using the eyedropper tool.

Message:
I learned how to plan and prepare for a photo shoot before taking a photo to
properly convey a message in a poster. I learned how to pick a color scheme
that appeals to an audience..

Program/Tools Used:
Photoshop, Canon DLSR

Web Design

Design Process
Description:
A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo for Cynthia Louise
Boutique.

Process:
Before this project, I had never seen or written any HTML/CSS, so it was quite a
personal accomplishment for me to do this project. It was interesting to see how
I could make a web page by only using a simple text editor.
After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made
CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors
for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the
eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Cabin and Give Me Time. I declared
some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I
also used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close
to the edge of the web page. This was one of the most challenging parts of
working with CSS because for some things, I just guessed then checked.

Message:
Cynthia Louise Boutique is a business for women looking for a bold, fun, and
classy style.

Montage

Design Process
Description:
A spiritual montage made by the blending of two images, and the use of
typography.

Process:
I selected the background image and made sure it was the correct size. Then,
I selected the image of Christ and moved him to the background image, then
I added a mask. With a black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I
painted away the hard image edges. Then, with a larger black brush at a lower
opacity and lower flow, I blended the image into the background, so it looks like
he is melting into the background image.
I added some type with several artistic contrasting fonts and I added a layer
style (drop shadow) to make the text more legible.

Message:
With this project I wanted to convey a testimony of Christ, and how darkness
can never over power the Light of Christ. It is designed for nyone in need of a
reminder of the power of Christ.

Programs/Tools Used:
Adobe Photoshop

Brochure

Design Process
Description:
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure about the Energi Juice Shop business.

Process:
I set up the brochure in Adobe InDesign and split my layout into two sections,
to allow for the fold to be in the center of the brochure. I used the black and
green bars throughout the brochure to create repetition and flow. I deliberately
chose photos that showed green smoothies to follow the monochromatic color
scheme and tie the brochure together.
For the image of the green smoothie on the right page of the inside layout, I used
the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the
image.
I created the Energi Juice Shop logo in Illustrator using the pen tool and then I
placed it into InDesign, on the back page of the brochure.

Message:
I wanted to nform my audience about the Energi Juice Shop. I am showing them
through the brochure what features the smoothie store offers and the health
benefits that come from the drinks.

Event Ad

Design Process
Description:
A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser at a local skate park using
only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Process:
I scanned the image of a skater, and then placed it as the background image of
my poster, with the edges bleeding over the margins. Then I added transparent
white boxes for organization of my title and information. I chose the font with a
techy and edgy, almost alternative feel to appeal to my audience.

Message:
The ad is for a fundraiser to raise money for the American Foundation for the
Blind. I wanted my audience to see this flyer and think the event would be fun
and worth checking out.

Programs/Tools Used:
Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)

Flier

Design Process
Description:
Black & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

Process:
I first created some draft sketches of my initial layout. I used my sketches as
guides to create this page layout in Adobe InDesign. I used diagonal lines to
create a focal point that draws attention to the image of the smiling business
people. I used contrasting gray, white, and black in the title, and repeating
horizontal gray lines to tie the layout together.

Message:
I am trying to reach recent graduates, who want to have an edge by becoming
strong leaders, to inform them how this leadership conference will help them in
the competitive workplace.
