INTRODUCTION:
Carrefour is a well-known company throughout the world. As the largest retailer in
Europe, the second in the world, and one of the world leaders in distribution, Carrefour
has over 11 thousand stores in the world. In 2004, the companys sales reached 81.3
billion Euro money, and were reported as 22nd of the top 500 fortune companies in the
world by Fortune magazine. In more than 30 countries and areas, such as Europe, Asia,
and South America, Carrefours networks relating to various retail businesses includes
supermarkets, hypermarkets, discount stores, convenience stores, on-line stores, and
electronic commerce. Nowadays, 2 billion consumers are served by 420,000 employees
of Carrefour all over the world 1.In order to provide customers with the best quality of
products, the lowest price, and the highest-grade service, Carrefour is seeking the
commodity with marketplace competition in different areas, and then identifying the
suppliers before setting up the cooperation relationship with them. From Carrefours
foundation in 1959, in this near 50 years, the core values which guide the Carrefour
groups human resources policy can be generalized as seven aspects.
The first aspect is freedom. Carrefour provided various commodities to consumers and
respects consumers choices of any product and any brand. The second is
responsibility. As a multi billion dollar corporation, Carrefour will be responsible for its
behavior about consumers and employees. The third aspect is sharing; Carrefours
technology and values will be shared with its public relations, shareholders, and
suppliers. The fourth aspect is respect, under any condition; Carrefour will respect its
workers, customers, and even competitors. The fifth aspect is integrity, being honest
both individuals and the whole group, and keeping promises is part of this group. The
sixth area is solidarity. Everyone in the group should solidify, advance, and retreat
together. Lastly is progress. Carrefour encourages improvement and innovation in order
to make progress. In Carrefour, these seven values have already impenetrate in the
whole group.

the first attempt, in 1998, to form a hypermarket. This attempt was the beginning of the
hypermarket era. The items that there hypermarkets have: hardware, clothing,
perishable and non-perishable food items, and a variety of other household items like
non-food products. Its convenience stores offer ready-to-eat products and daily

MIS;
Carrefour using their management information system like: it helps them to constantly
updating stored information and design procedures, disciplines and processes.
Carrefour Group teamed with PeopleSoft Company in order to manage its international
operations. PeopleSoft Company provides several types of management like: SCM,
HRMS and CRM systems. Also, Carrefour created its special offices in each country
which is called SSC (shared service center) and the functions of these offices are
acquiring the orders to manage them and prepare them by using MIS.
TPS:
Carrefour Company used Transaction Processing System (TPS) which it designed to
process routine transactions efficiently, accurately, collect, store, and modify. A
transaction is an event that generates or modifies data that is eventually stored in an

They adept these information systems because these systems help Carrefour in there
many types of data like: number of items in warehouses, number of employees in a
certain department and number of stores. Actually these statements are general
description or explanations. They are stored and recorded for specific purposes. They
adept dss system and its objective is to store or process data but it seeks to extract the
desired information. The information system which they adept also helps them in
different transaction like . For example, in cashier when we purchase certain products
from Carrefour cashier records the date of purchase, the type of product or service and
type of payment as well as the price of items. Actually, they recorded and stored all
these information for analyzing or specific purposes. . Carrefour's EIS allows users to
describe the operations of company. In addition, EIS can access in many areas like:
Marketing, Finance and other areas but in other side EIS is not easy to manage and
more expensive.

HOW
THEIR
INFORMATION
SYSTEM
IS
BETTER
THAN
THEIR
COMPETITORS:
Several of the competitors of Carrefour include: grocery stores, convenience stores,
Wal-Mart, Tesco, Ahold, Aldi, and Auchan.
GROCERY AND CONVENIENCE STORES: as compare to other grocery stores and
convenience stores Carrefour have more helpful and better information system because
they are internationally popular and their stores are all around the world, and they have
systems like RFID which helped them in identifying the number of customers they have,
they can collect data that how much they sold to the customers, how many customers
visiting their stores. These types of system were not be used by grocery and
convenience stores as they are not very large in size and they are the indirect
competitor of the CARREFOUR.
The direct competitors are AUCHAN is a French grocery chain that is growing at a rapid
pace and is using web based international system which gives them easier, quicker,
and more efficient selection and management of suppliers for Auchan. The results are
high quality suppliers and products with lower overhead costs. But the information
system of Carrefour is better as they are using DSS which helps them in making
decisions and analyze large data where Auchan is using information system which just
provides benefit to their supplier not to the management in decisions and customers.
Wal-Mart the other competitor using the same information system like Carrefour but
there is no Wal- mart hypermarket in UAE which is good for CARREFOUR as they dont
any have direct competitor in UAE

RFID to know that what amount of customers they have, in which area and also to
identify that where the shelves are empty. In this way they aligned their information
system to create value for the customers.
THEY NEED ANY UPGRADES OR THE SYSTEM THEY ARE USING NEEDS TO
BE CHANGED:
As there is no need for Carrefour to change any information system as every
information system performing their work efficiently.
