Today we say goodbye to our Year 7 students and tomorrow we will do the same as we
farewell our Year 6 students. This is the last year primary schools will have Year 7s, as from
2015 we will be a Pre Primary to Year 6 school. This is a very big change, however I believe
our students are well and truly ready to enter a secondary school environment.
Congratulations to the recipients of the awards and to all the graduating Year 7 and Year 6
students. From everyone at Mount Lockyer we wish you all the very best as you embark on
this very exciting phase of your life.
Last Thursday we had the Volunteers Morning Tea. Many people contribute their time to our
school in a vast range of ways. It is through the support of volunteers that our school is able
to offer a wide range of programs. The purchase of programs such as Mathletics and
Reading Eggs; subsidisation of swimming lessons, reading books for home readers and
library, all possible through the work of volunteers. Our school is extremely grateful and
appreciative of the contribution volunteers make.
Volunteers have been a part of Mount Lockyer Primary School for many years and none
more so than Mrs Beth Daniels. Beth was one of our most active volunteers over a period
of fifty years. Her children, grandchildren and now two of her great grand-children have
been or are Mount Lockyer students. She was involved in the P&C, School Council, Safety
House Coordinator, master chef of many school camps, just to mention a few.
Sadly Beth passed away a couple of years ago. In memory of Beth, last year her family
initiated the Beth Daniel Volunteer of the Year Award. Her family felt that this would be a
way to keep her memory alive and something she would have most definitely approved of
and valued. On behalf of everyone at Mount Lockyer thank you most sincerely to the
Daniels family for their generosity.
This years recipient of the Beth Daniels Volunteer of the Year Award is Lisa Hindle. Lisa
was unanimously chosen for the many years and uncountable hours she has dedicated to
our school. Lisa has been the Chair of our School Board since we became an Independent
Public School 2011, attended P&C meetings, run the Uniform Shop and helped out in
classes across the school; this is but a small example of her involvement. This year marks
the end of a nine year association Lisa has had with Mount Lockyer as her last child moves
to high school next year. Thank you so much for your dedication, loyalty and exceptional
contribution to our school; you are a most worthy recipient of this award.
Reports: Semester 2 student reports will be available for collection on Wednesday
afternoon. Reports that are not collected by close of school Thursday will remain at the
school and can be collected at the beginning of the new school year 2015.
This Thursday we will be holding the final assembly for the year, Room 24 will provide the
entertainment. I look forward to seeing many of you there, however failing that I would like to
thank you for your support over the year. All the best, Merry Christmas and a happy, safe
and relaxing break.

Principal

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.

Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
