Dear Sir/Madam,
I have recently graduated with a BA (Hons) in Architecture from the
University of Plymouth, UK, which is validated for RIBA Part 1 Exemption. The reason why
I am writing this letter is to acquire some practical experience with your organisation, as part
of the year out in practice which one should take, as part of the RIBA programme towards
becoming an architect under UK Law. After meeting you at the BIA orientation meeting
earlier this year and the National Trust Exhibition, it was clear from discussions with you that
you have a keen interest for the . After taking a look at some of your proposals, other than the
fact that there is a key reference to tropical architecture through the vibrant use of colours ,
trelices on pedimented porches, there is this clear methodology through the nestling effect of
the landscaping in these proposals, to create intimate spaces for clients to enjoy. It is this kind
of methodology that inspires me as an aspiring architect since it
I have attached a Rsum of present qualifications and a design portfolio from the recently
concluded year, is available for viewing.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Respectfully,
Rian Beckles.

it becomes apparent that the firm seems to enjoy using the lush tropical plants to create
intimate spaces, whilst simultaneously attempting to revive the pre-independence Colonial
Style of Architecture, which once thrived and dominated the island. Pieces which imply this
are the Tortuga, Bougainvilla and Coral Reef Club projects. The Biovail Offices
project, which due to the nature of the covered decks on the first floor, also hint at classic
Barbadian Town houses. This revival is of interest to me, since my dissertation topic looked
at colonialisms reincarnation from pre-independence to present, and how its evolution
affected housing in Barbados.
