......--THE SUPER DAMPER~,

If you've experienced the tell-Iale signs 01 harmonics such as broken crankshafts and
flywheels, bolts continually loosening, and bearing wear , you are probably the victim of
high frequency vibrations . Aluminum hubs and poorly designed dampers can actually add

to the problem
The ATt Super Damper is the only damper designed specifically for high RPM engines.
Its elastomer design is the same design that has provided superior engine protection for the
last 50 years . The "2 dampers in 1 diameter" design doubles the range of effective
dampening . The Super Damper is totally sealed against contaminants. tunable just by
changing the elastomer durometer of the inserts. and rebUildable in minutesl
Engine builders have realized the value of the All Torsional Super Oamper. Newfound horsepower has shown up on dynos across the country with the extremely efficient
Super Oamper.

AReA FIGURE-8 SERIES

The Automobile Racing Club of America (AReA) was

founded in 1953 by pioneering auto racing businessman John
Marcum . Prior to found ing his own sanctioning body, Marcum
served an apprenticeship under Bill France Sr., the founder
of NASCAA. Combining years of experience racing stock

The ARCA Figure-8 Series actually had its beginnings in

1962, when the first figure -8 racing event at Flat Rock Speedway was run under the sanction of MARC (the forerunner to
ARCA). Throughout the '60s and 70s, weekly ARCAsanctioned figure-8 racing was conducted at Flat Rock Speedway, Toledo Speedway, and MI. Clemens Race Track. Meanwhile, Spartan Speedway in Lansing was developing its own
reputation as a premier figure8 track under promoters Tom
Kestenholtz, then Paul and Dorothie Zimmerman. By 1980,
the Zimmermans had developed a yearend event dubbed
the Michigan State Championship, drawing most 01 the top
compelilors from the ARCAsanctioned track in Flat Rock,
and by 1987 it had grown to a 3-event series at Spartan. In
1988 the ARCA Figure-8 division continued to run weekly at
Ftat Rock Speedway, but also competed at Spartan and the
2 tracks hosted the first-ever ARCA Figure-8 Championship
Series. Former ARCA Figure-8 driver Ric Kargel posted a
point lund through his Quality Clutches business, and since
that time events have been run at Kil Kare Speedway in Ohio,
Galesburg Speedway in Michigan and Spartan and Flat Rock.
The 1992 series will see events at Flat Rock, Spartan and
Galesburg, with some $45,000 in posted awards. The success
of the series can be attributed 10 the quality of the race cars,
the talent of the drivers and the retative uniqueness 01ligure8
racing today: of 800 race l acilities in the United States, less
than 25 run figure8s on a weekly basis.

cars and officiating NASCAR and USAC race events, Marcum's organization grew and increased in stature with its first

of 30 annual appearances to date at Daytona 11'11'1 Speedway

In 1964 al the invitation of France. As the sport of auto racing
progressed and advanced, AReA adapted to the changes
and remains a leading sanc1ioning body in the United Stales.
The most visible and fastest growing series under AReA
sanction is the AReA Supercar Series of stock cars which
annually runs day-before events on NASCAR Winston Cup
race weekends and is seen nationally on ESPN television
and broadcast nationally on MRN radio. The Supercar Series
boasts 20 events at some of the most prestigious facilities in
the country and $1.8 million in posted awards in 1991. ARCA
enters its 5th decade of racing with more touring series activity
than at any time in its history. This Yearbook is for and about
ARCA's three additional touring series--lhe ARCA Midget
Series, ARCA Figure8 Series and ARCA Pro-4 Series.

AReA MIDGET SERIES

The ARCA Midget Series of the 1990s was founded in
1980 as the World Wide Auto Racing (WWAR) club by current
series director Dave Bruce. After promoting many open-wheel
midget events in Michigan and Ohio, Bruce saw the need in
1979 to create a sanction ing body for the division which could
organize events for promoters in the Michigan-Ohio-Indiana
region. Developing his concept into action, the Midget Series
conducted its initial event on July 22, 1979 at Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan. While the majority of Ihe series' events have
been contested on the midwest short tracks, a southern series
of events evolved taking competitors to Florida, Georgia,
Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina. In December of 1987,
Bruce and lNINAR entered into a working agreement with
ARCA. Loctite Corporation stepped forward to provide the
first COrporate major sponsorship in the series' history, creat
ing the Loctite Midget Series in 1988. With substantial in
creases in year-end point fund money through 1990, the
series experienced a solid close to its first decade. Coming
into 1992, the ARCA Midget Series has sanctioned 275 events
at 56 tracks in 8 states and Canada.

AReA PRO-4 SERIES

The ARCA Pro-4 Series had its origin in the super-compact
class, which ran weekly at the Columbus Motor Speedway
in the early 1980s. The supercompacts were 4-cylinder cars
built from street cars and converted to race cars. Billy Buxton,
now the technical inspector IOf the ARCA Pro-4 Series, intro
duced the first ~tube" car--constructed from the ground up
as a race car-in 1984, winning the trad< championship. By
1987 other tracks had begun to invite the 4-cytinder cars in
for special shows, and Winchester Speedway put together a
regularly scheduled series. In 1988 car owner Art Hughes
put together a board comprised of competitors and formed
the Mid-States Pro4 Tour. Though the group ceased running
as a weekly division at Columbus and Winchester, the series
returns often to both facilities. The MidStates Tour ran 15
races in its lirst season of 1988, with Dave Stacy being
crowned as the first series champion. The 1989 tour, with 16
events. saw veteran competitor Jack Weethee win the driving
tiUe. At the end 01 the '89 season the MidStates tour came
under the auspices of the Automobite Racing Club of America
(ARCA) and Mike Stacy won the firstever ARCA Pro-4 Series
race in April of '90 at Kil Kare Speedway. By the completion
of the 1991 season, the ARCA Pro4 Series had crowned
new champions in young Jody Gara and Robbie Pyle and
the series had firmly established itself with a history of 56
events at 12 different racing facilities in Ohio, Indiana and
Michigan.

standard rings open up. Blowby increases and power drops. But
Total Seal's patented 2piece design continues to hold cylinder

even after a full season of racing. Dirt or asphalt, your engine runs
stronger, longer. That's why winners like Bill Venturini, Jimmy Means,
Bobby Bowsher, Chrissy Oliver, Gary Stanton, Bob Keselowski and
Prototype Racing Engines rely on Total Seal Gapless piston rings.
