History of the Christmas Tree

By Shelby Bremer
Seventy-four
percent
of
American households put up
a Christmas tree. However,
most of those people probably do not know why except
that it is a family tradition.
Before Christianity, in the winter time when everything was

Christianity in the 16th Century. Martin Luther noticed

the stars in the sky walking
home one winter night and decided to add lights in the form
of candles to the evergreen.
It wasnt until the 1800s that
the tradition caught on with
Americans. Over the years, trees
have been decorated with homemade ornaments as well as a variety of fruits and other foods.
As you enjoy your Christmas
tree this season, artificial or
real, remember that there are
350,000 acres of land in the
United States that add to the
production Christmas trees.
