9 Key Frames 2 Kilos

These are the nine key frames I have chosen for my

creative artifact. I was able to collect these photographs by
making my actors act through the scenes multiple times
whist I took pictures of the actions taking place. I then
selected the pictures I thought were the best at depicting
the chronological sequence of my film 2 Kilos and
represented the clear narrative of my script.

Key Frame: 1

Keanon Mcsween

Scenario: The scenario in the picture is the opening to the sequence when
Ryan is lying unconscious on the floor at the entrance of an alleyway, after
just having been beaten up and had his trainers stolen. At this point Ryans lip
is bleeding and he is twitching his foot as he slowly regaining consciousness.
Ryan is unable to feel anything he would still be in a daze after being knocked
unconscious
Cinematography: In this high angle long shot the lighting in this shot is very
neutral no editing or enhancing has been done, so that the audience will
understand that there is not much really happening in this scene.
Sound: In this scene their will be non diegetic background sounds of a slow
beating heart to represent how the protagonists body is reacting to the
situation as he begins to slowly regain consciousness and to create a sense
of anxiety to the audience.
Mise-en scene: The costumes in the scene make my character look like a
teen who is mixed in with gang culture; this is because of my costume choice
of a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms and through the actor choice, which helps
convey everyday stereotypes to my audience.
Representations: Here the Ryan is represented as weak and vulnerable, as
he is alone with no trainers on and looking as if he has just been cast away
and thrown on the ground.

Keanon Mcsween
Key Frame: 2

Scenario: This shot is showing Ryan after he has just regained

consciousness. At this point Ryan is currently in a daze and looking around
wondering where he is and trying to figure out how he got into this position.
He then realizes that his lip is bleeding and wipes it off, whilst wiping his lip he
notices that he is no longer wearing his trainers as he looks down at his feet
he sees that there are only white socks, he then looks around and notices that
his bike is missing.
Cinematography: Here I have used a medium close up so that the audience
can clearly see the position of the character and the expression on his face.
Sound: At first there is no sound but as Ryan starts to think he says through
diegetic dialogue Da fffffu
Mise-en scene: Character-positioning Ryan the protagonist is position on the
floor still leaning up against the fence to show some progression as he
regains consciousness.
Representations: The protagonist Ryan is represented as confused to the
audience through the use of facial expressions clearly depicting my
protagonists feelings. At this point my protagonist is also represented as
being scared and anxious because he does not remember what has
happened or recognize where he is.

Keanon Mcsween
Key Frame: 3

Scenario: Ryan in a state of confusion. At this point Ryan is standing

desperately trying to remember what happened. Here Ryan is feeling irritated
because he cant remember how he got into this position. Ryan then looks up
to the sky as he tries to remember what happened. This is the part of the
scene when my protagonist sets up the first of two flashbacks.
Cinematography: This is a medium long shot shortly after this medium shot
there is a slow upward pan showing the sky as Ryan begins to think.
Sound: There is non-diegetic background score music getting louder as the
protagonist begins to panic connoting more tension to the audience.
Mise en scene: Ryan the protagonist is positioned in the centre of the frame
leaving space for the audience to see the location in the background.
Representations: In this scene Ryan is represented and confused and
irritated as he desperately tries to remember what happened.

Key Frame: 4

Scenario: The first flashback scene set round the back of a shop. In this flash
back Ryan is collecting an order from a well-known drug dealer whilst being
cautious that he doesnt get caught. After being given the envelope filled with
drugs he then quickly put the envelope in his satchel to keep it hidden. The
drug dealer watches as Ryan puts the drugs in his satchel to make sure he is
not getting up to anything suspicious.
Cinematography: Here I have used a medium long shot showing Ryan
picking up an envelope filled with drugs from a drug dealer. I had the camera
positions at eye level to allow the best view of the action going on the scene.
Sound: At this point there are ambient sounds of traffic and the faint sound of
police sirens.
Mise en scene: Props I used an envelope to hold the drugs and the bag that
Ryan puts the drugs in to. At this point I also used a bike but it is not shown in
this shot.
Representations: Ryan is represented as anxious and nervous because this
is his first time and he does want the drug dealer to think that he cant handle
and the drug dealer the antagonist is represented as suspicious because he is
Watching everything that Ryan does.

Key Frame: 5

Scenario: Ryan is looking through the bag in a panic after he has

remembered what is meant to be inside. As he opens the bag he feels its
weight and realizes that it is empty. He holds the bag open as he tries to
remember what he had. He remembers he had some cash but cant see it
anywhere. He then remembers that he had his phone and it is not in the bag
and Ryan begins to get angry.
Cinematography: This is over the shoulder shot taken from a high angle to
the from over the right shoulder of protagonist Ryan.
Mise-en scene: At this point in the sequence I used the bag that Ryan the
protagonist put the drug in.
Representations: At this point Ryan is represented as desperate as he looks
through is bag in a panic trying to find his things and something to help him
remember.

Keanon Mcsween
Key Frame: 6

Scenario: Ryan has become angry and irritated because he cant find his
phone. In this long shot Ryan has crushed the bag in his hand is about to
throw his bag on the floor after he has searched through it and found that it is
empty and the drugs are nowhere to be found.
Cinematography: Her I have used a long shot showing my protagonist
positioned in the centre of the frame and as much background as possible.
Sound: At this point there is a loud fast paced non diegetic drum beat in the
background to represent Ryans anger and frustration.
Mise-en scene: Location, the location I have chosen for this shot is the same
as the first key frame but here I have allowed the audience to see more of it.
Representations: This represents Ryan to the audience as furious and
irritated this is clearly shown through the protagonists actions. At this point
Ryan is also represented as angry and confused because he still does not
understand how he ended up like this.

Keanon Mcsween
Key Frame: 7

Scenario: shot two teenage boys in hoodies are hiding, waiting for Ryan to
ride into the alleyway. As they wait they are planning how to steal the drugs
from him, as they already know that he has the drugs in his bag. As Ryan
rides through he has no idea that he is in danger and they are waiting for him.
Cinematography: Here I have used a long shot at I level showing my
protagonist Ryan and my two unknown antagonists.
Sound: As Ryan rides through there is low-level high intensity non-diegetic
background music to create tension among the audience.
Mise-en scene: Props the prop used in this shot is Ryans bike clearly shown
to the audience in this shot. Costumes Ryan and both antagonists are
dressed in hoodies and jeans or tracksuit bottoms. Character positions, in this
shot the antagonists are positioned closer to the foreground and to the left of
the frame and my protagonist is positioned closer to the background and in
the centre of the frame.
Representations: Ryan is represented as unsuspecting as he does not know
what is about to happen. At this point the two antagonists are represented
anxious and pumped as they prepare themselves to force Ryan off his bike.

Keanon Mcsween
Key Frame: 8

Scenario:

This
three
shot
shows
the point
in the film
where the
two
unknown
teenage boys have just pulled Ryan off of his bike and are forcing him to the
ground. Ryan is trying to fight them back but is outnumbered and defenseless
against the two boys. The boys are attacking Ryan, kicking him in his chest
and punching him in his back because they know that he has the drugs and
they want to take them and resell them for themselves. Ryan screams out in
pain as he is thrown to the ground and kicked in the chest. Once Ryan is
thrown to the ground a blow to his head knocks him unconscious
Cinematography: Here I have used an eyelevel action three shot. I
positioned the camera as close to the centre of the action as possible.
Sound: During the fight scene there is loud fast past paced non-diegetic rap
music to connote exhilaration and excitement to the audience.
Mise-en scene: Character positions, in this shot the characters are positioned
close together in the foreground and in the centre of the frame.
Representations: Ryan is represented as weak because he cannot defend
himself against the two boys who are younger than him. The two unknown
antagonists are represented as violent and part of the gang culture because
they are beating up Ryan for drugs and money.

Keanon Mcsween

Key Frame: 9

Scenario: Ryan hears someone shouting Oi you!! in the back ground, he

recognizes the voice scared he says Oh shit he slowly turns round to see his
boss angry because he has not delivered the drugs. Unaware that Ryan has
been attacked and has no idea where the drugs are. Ryan then turns around
and starts trying to quickly limp away.
Cinematography: Here I have used a long shot for the antagonist and a
close up for the protagonist at eyelevel. I positioned the camera near to the
right shoulder of the protagonist.
Sound: At this point there is loud non diegetic sound of a beating heat getting
faster as Ryan begins to get scared of what his boss might do.
Mise-en scene: Character positioning, in this shot I have positioned the
antagonist as far back in the background as possible and the protagonist in
the fore ground and both to the left of the frame. Allowing the audience to still
see as much of the location as possible.
Representations: Ryan is re presented as scared and the antagonist is
represented as intimidating and powerful, because Ryan is scared of what is
going to happen.
