LOGAN RAM KHILONA JAANA

GYAANI SANT SINGH JI MASKEEN

A toy is meant for playing, it is something which helps to pass the time. A child
is someone who loves playing with toys and treats everything around him as
playing objects. If we place some expensive object in front of a child, he will
start playing with it without considering its worth. If a few children are left in an
expensive car unattended, there is every possibility that they will treat it as a big
toy and damage it. The point being highlighted is that it is in child's nature to
treat objects as toys and to play with them.

Childhood can be of three types – physical childhood, mental childhood and

spiritual childhood. It is understandable if a child by virtue of his physicality
plays with toys but an adult reading film magazines or novels is a child by
mentality. Just as children derive thrills by playing with toys, similarly a person
reading filmy magazines or trash literature recieves cheap thrills and nothing
else. In this age, we can notice that majority of adults are stuck in this child's
mentality – wasting time reading meaningless things. If one tries to stop them,
the argument put forward in defense is, "Oh, We are just killing time". But the
objective is not to "pass" time, but to make it productive as there is nothing
more precious object than time. If one starts "passing" time, then what use it is
to us?

There is another type of childhood - spiritual type. Playing with religion, sacred
texts, with truth, with God are all signs of spiritual ignorance. Just as children
find everything around them as toys, for "spritual kids" even God is a toy.

Some people think that the Lord is a play-thing. ||1|| (Ang 1158, SGGS Ji)

It is common to see people getting old but their minds and spirtual growth
remaining a child but it is very rare to find a child of small physical age but
totally mature and ripe at mental and spiritual levels.

Dhroo and Prehlaad were five years old yet they were totally mature and "old" in
their thinking and love for God while Harnaakash and Dhroo's mother acted as
children. One such child came to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, upon listening him speak
wise words Guruji exclaimed, you are a Buddhha!. Guru Harkrishan Ji Sahib
were seven years old when they sat on Guru's seat, which was no small feat.
Similarly, Chote Shahibzaades got shaheedi in the walls of Sirhind but waver an
inch from truth. It is extremely rare to find such children in this world who are
mature and old at mental and spiritual levels. A person with foresight and
intellect should be considered old and not someone with mere grey hair. A Sufi
Saint puts it beautifully:

Bazurgi Ba Akal Ast, Na Ke Kamaal

Tawrangi Ba Dil Ast, Na Ke Masaal
