families at Christmas.

From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

Merry Christmas! This time of year we give thanks to
God for His many gifts especially the greatest giftthe
birth of Jesus Christ our Savior.
It has been a tradition here at St. Lawrence to share some of
the parish needs so parishioners can thank God and
celebrate the birth of our Savior through a gift to the parish.
If you would like to make a gift to the parish, please select
an item (or items) on the list, place the money (or check) in
an envelope marked WISH LIST 2014 with your name
on it as well as the gift you have selected. The envelope can be given to me,
Fr. Duquaine, the Parish Office, or placed in the collection. Thank you in advance
for sharing your many gifts with your parish!
The parish office will close at noon December 24th and reopen Monday,
December 29th so that the staff can enjoy Christmas with their families. There
will be no morning Mass celebrated December 26th so that Fr. Duquaine and I
can spend time with our families. Thank you for understanding.

Q: In the Apostles' Creed, we say Jesus descended into
"hell," then we say it wasn't really "hell" where he went. It
was a place for the dead. It seems it should be worded like
the Nicene Creed.

who have been lost due to legalized abortion.
They will be running their annual signature

Marriage Moments &
Parenting Pointers
December 2014
Marriage Moment It's almost here - Christmas of
course. It's easy to feel pretty frantic and busy at this
time of year. We want to get a nice gift for our
spouse, the kids, whoever, decorate, etc. Take some
time out today. It needn't be long; just a pause. Look
at each other and be thankful.
Parenting PointerThe Christmas Vigil uses the
genealogy of Jesus as the Gospel (Matthew 1:1-25).
Do your children know their heritage back several
generations? Talk with them about their relatives
dead and alive and their ethnic roots. Perhaps go to a
map and help them visualize the way they came to
the place you now call home.

Our deepest appreciation to everyone who

IN THE AREA
Solemn Evening Prayer
Our seminarians know that they have a lot of support in their journey of
priestly discernment and preparation, but I need your help to show
them your actual faces and hearts in person! Will you help me? On
Tuesday, December 30th from 7:00-7:30pm in Lafayette at the
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception you can join Bishop Doherty,
the seminarians and me for the celebration of Solemn Evening Prayer.
As part of this celebration, Bishop Doherty will formally institute
James Baxter, Cole Daily, John Nguyen and Coady Owens in the
Ministry of Acolyte, as well as Christian DeCarlo and Jonathan
Matthes in the Ministry of Lector. As they experience these ministries
they continue to approach the full ministry of the priesthood by
proclaiming God's Sacred Word and assisting in more formal ways at
the altar in various celebrations of the Eucharist. This Institution is a
simple Rite, but it brings them ever closer to being fully conformed to
Jesus the Head, Shepherd and Spouse of the Body of Christ!
Will you help me show them your support by joining us in prayer at
7:00pm on December 30th at the Cathedral? I am thankful for your
many ways of supporting our local culture of vocations! I also pray
that you experience a renewal of Grace during the coming season of
Advent! Fr. David Hasser, Office for Vocations
ST. ELIZABETH HOSPICE GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS
TO BEGIN WEEK OF JANUARY 12
Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and confused after the loss of a loved
one but arent sure where to turn? Spending time with others who
are on the same emotional roller coast, in a group setting, can be
helpful during your grief journey. St. Elizabeth Hospice has served
the greater Lafayette community in the grief support ministry for
many years by providing practical information in a facilitated but
relaxed group setting. New groups are forming now to begin a
10-week series the week of January 12. To accommodate
different schedules, groups are available on either Tuesday evenings
(6:00-7:30 pm) or Friday mornings (9:30-11:00 am). Please contact
Dwight Herrin, St. Elizabeth Hospice Grief Support Group
Facilitator, at 423-6911, for more information and to register. You
need not make this journey alone!
