chapter are in compliance with the local safety regulations.
When operating the Huawei device, follow the full precautions and special safety instructions
from Huawei.
The personnel in charge of installation and maintenance must understand the basics of the safety
operations. Only trained and qualified personnel can install or maintain the device.

High Voltage

DANGER
l

The high voltage power supply supplies power for the device operation. Direct or indirect
contact (through damp objects) with high voltage and AC mains supply may result in
fatal accident.

Non-standard and improper high voltage operations can result in fire and electric shock.
Therefore, you must abide by the local rules and regulations when bridging and wiring
AC cables through a certain area. The personnel who perform high voltage operations
must be qualified for performing high voltage and AC operations.

Do not wear conducting articles, such as watches, chains, bracelets and rings while

Precautions

CAUTION
l

Electronic circuits and components are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge.

When handling circuit boards, make sure that you wear a securely grounded ESD wrist
strap, and only hold the edge of boards during operation.

Wait for at least 30 minutes before unpacking if the board is just moved from a cold, dry
place to a warm, damp place. Otherwise, moisture will condense on the board surface
and damage the components.

The boards are packed in a plastic bag and an ESD bag. Keep the bags properly. They
may be used later for keeping the boards or packing the damaged boards returned for
repair.

In each ESD-preventive bag there is a small bag of desiccant, which shall not be thrown
away.

Procedure
Step 1 Wear an ESD wrist strap.
Step 2 Open the board box and take out the boards.

Postrequisite
l

If you are going to install the board right after unpacking, place the board on an antistatic
surface to discharge the static electricity.

If you are going to install the board at a later time, pack the board using the original materials
and place them at a cool dry place without direct sunshine or strong electromagnetic
radiation.

Precautions

WARNING
Avoid direct eye exposure to optical interfaces of optical interface boards and fiber jumpers.
The laser beams inside optical interface boards and optical fibers will damage your eyes.

CAUTION
The SL1/SD1 board can be equipped with different types of optical modules. When the
optical module is of the Ie-1 type, use multi-mode fibers; when the optical module is of
other types, use G.652 fibers.

Procedure
Step 1 Affix temporary labels to both ends of the fiber jumpers.
Step 2 Pass the fiber jumpers through the corrugated pipe.
Wrap the adhesive tapes around the cuts of the corrugated pipe. It is forbidden to force the fiber
jumpers in to avoid wearing them.
TIP

To ease the passing of fiber jumpers through a pipe, drop the jumpers at a high place and let the jumpers
fall by its gravity.

Step 3 Route the corrugated pipe from the ODF to the cabinet. Pass the pipe through the fiber hole and
bind the pipe onto the hole.
If the fiber hole cannot provide enough space for the pipe to pass through, pass the pipe through
the cable hole and fasten the pipe.
Step 4 Route the fiber jumpers to the IDU.
Step 5 Remove the protective caps from the fiber connectors and insert the connectors into the optical
interfaces on boards.

CAUTION

Routing and bundling cables according to regulations is an important guarantee for reliable
transmission of signals.

3-21

OptiX RTN 600 Radio Transmission System

Installation Guide

3 Installing IDU Cables

3.7.1 Cabling
Ensuring reliable transmission of signals and facilitating future maintenance are two rules in
cabling.
The cabling requirements are as follows:
l

Signal cables should be routed separately from power cables, fiber jumpers, and jumpers.

The specifications and cross-sectional area of the cable, and the route and position for the
cabling should be designed beforehand. All cables should be arranged neatly.

Cable turns should be smooth. The bending radius of cable turns should be larger than 60
mm, and the bending radius of fiber turns should be larger than 40 mm.

There should be no damage to the insulating layer of the conducting wire.

Cables that are routed along the wiring frame must be bundled.
They should be bundled closely with appropriate tightness. The spacing between cable ties
should be even.

Cables in troughs do not need to be bundled. They should be placed tidily and straight with
no crossover. No overflow is allowed. At inlets, outlets, and turns of the trough, cables
should be bundled with cable ties.

IDU cables should be routed both right and left to facilitate operations and maintenance
and not to cover board indicators.
In other words, the cables of the boards in left slots should be routed to the left of the cabinet
and those in right slots should be routed to the right of the cabinet.

Leave enough slack when connecting cables to the IDU to facilitate insertion and removal
of boards and the fan box. For the IDU 620, the cables of the left half boards must have
enough slack to be routed away from the front of the fan box.

3.7.2 Bundling
Cables must be tightly bundled. The cables bundled should be tidy, clear and elegant.
The bundling requirements are as follows:

3-22

Do not bind the power cable with other types of cables.

The cables bundled should be tidy, clear and elegant.

Use cable ties of different specifications according to actual circumstances.

Do not connect two or more cable ties and use them as one to bundle cables in case the
tightness is reduced.

After cable ties are fixed, the remaining part should be trimmed with no burrs.

The spacing between cable ties should be even and should be three or four times the
diameter of the bundle.

When making turns for bundled cables, keep the bending radius as big as possible to avoid
breaking cable cores.

3.7.3 Bundling Fiber Jumpers

Use special binding strap to bundle fiber jumpers.
Observe the following requirements when bundling fiber jumpers:
l

Arrange fiber jumpers tidily into a bundle before bundling them.

The mat side, not the hook side, of the binding strap contacts fiber jumpers.

Bundle fiber jumpers with appropriate tightness. Do not bind them too tight.

The spacing between two binding straps should not exceed 40 cm.

Do not bundle too many fiber jumpers together at a time.

For 2 mm fiber jumpers, 100 pieces at most can be bound together. For 3 mm ones, 60
pieces at most can be bound together. If there are a large number of fiber jumpers, bind
them into several bundles.

6.3 Routing and Bundling the IF Cable

In actual practice, it is required to strictly observe the regulations to route and bundle the IF
cable.
The routing requirements are as follows:
l

The IF cable should be routed from top downwards and be bound at the same time routed.

The specifications and cross-sectional area of the cable, and the route and position for the
cabling should be designed beforehand. The cable should be arranged neatly without any
overlapping or crossover.

The IF cable should be curved for waterproof consideration under the ODU and before
entering the IDU room.

The bending radius of the IF cable should be larger than 30 cm.

The bundling requirements are as follows:

l

The IF cable routed along the wiring frame must be bundled. It should be bundled closely
with appropriate tightness. The spacing between cable ties should be even.

The IF cable should be bound using cable ties for outdoor use every one meter.

Cable ties should face the same direction. There should be a slack of 3 mm to 5 mm before
cutting cable ties.

6.4 Grounding the IF Cable

To ground the IF cable, first determine the grounding point depending on the installation mode
and the length of the IF cable, and then ground the cable using the grounding clip.

6.4.1 Grounding Points of the IF Cable

The grounding point depends on the installation mode and the length of the IF cable. In general,
the IF cable should be grounded to a minimum of three points. When the IF cable is longer than
60 meters, add a grounding point for every extra 30 meters.
