Course Description
The goal of the Physical Education curriculum it to develop individuals who are
proficient at movement and who can use physical activity to:
Maintain or develop fitness
Develop skills for sport and recreation
Use movement for self-expression, enjoyment, challenge, and social interaction
Pursue lifelong physical activity

Grading
Each student will take home an assessment for Physical Education at the end of each
quarter. This assessment will include individual information about student achievement
on fitness tests and performance objectives specific to their grade.
Fitness Testing
Students will be assessed on the following norm referenced areas of fitness: aerobic
endurance, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.
State Standards
Idaho does not currently have state standards for Physical Education. Therefore, Boise
Public Schools Physical Education Department has aligned themselves with the Indiana
State Standards. The state of Indiana developed their standards from standards set forth
by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Both the
NASPE and Indiana State Standards reflect the educational philosophies and values of
the Boise School District.
Course Scope
Unit 1 Demonstrate competency in many movement forms and proficiency
in a few movement forms.
Unit 2 Applies movement concepts & principles to the learning and
development of motor skills.
Unit 3 Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
Unit 4 Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness
