1/12th, 1/24th, wasn, Rose Arbor This project is for a Rose Arbor that can be used as an entrance to your dollhouse or garden or as @ central piece for a small display. The project is intermediate and does need to be cut accurately. It can be varied in dimensions and scale to suit your needs. 1 will be making the sample in Balsa soit can be cut by hand with a knife, but you could also make it from timber if yau have access to a small table saw. For smaller scales | would suggest cutting pieces from firm card. The drawings are in 1/12th so print plans at 100%; for 24th at 50% scale or 25% for 1/48th. Materials and tools needed: scalpel or sharp knife, fine sandpaper on flat stick, fine sandpaper around dowel, fine 4mm fine grain balsa, 2mm fine grain balsa, or thin stiff card for smaller steel wool, scale, sidecutters 8 pins to represent bolts alue, shellac or wood sealer, Let’s begin: From 4mm balsa sheet: cut 4 pasts mm wide x 180mm long. Rebate one end of each to 14mm from end to a depth of 2mm. cut 2 headers 14mm wide x 150mm long. Rough cut out and sand to shape with sanding dowel. Measure 16mm from ends and rebate trench 8mm wide x 2mm deep. cut 4 braces 8mm wide x 26mm long with 45 degree ends. Use sanding dowel to give shape. cut 7 cross pieces Smm wide x 86mm long, Measure 12mm from ends and rebate trench 4mm wide x 2mm deep. Chamfer bottom end as drawing and fine chamfer around top. by Aim member Warren Barnard Header x 2 oS Brace x4 Post x4 Cross pieces x7 } (0 } N 1 When all pieces are cut and shaped, seal with shellac and let dry. When dry sand gently with steel wool Front and rear: Place print of drawing on flat surface and tape header to drawing, rebate upwards; put glue in rebate and fit posts’ rebates into glue. Use drawing to square up posts, then fit 2 braces and allow to dry. Make 2nd piece on top of Ist to make sure both are the same. Let dry. When fully dry fit pins through overlapping join to represent bolts, put a touch of glue on pin and push through from header side first, leave to dry and cut off rear excess of pin. From 2mm balsa sheet: rT cut 8 rails Smm wide x 62mm long, 2 long slats Smm wide x 141mm long and 4 slats 5mm wide x 116 long. When all pieces are cut and shaped, seal with shellac and let dry. When dry sand gently with steel wool, Sides: Place print of drawing on flat surface and assemble crass rails on top held down with tape at each end. Put small drop of glue at each join and place vertical long slats down,using drawing to accurately layout. Place print of plan on flat surface tap 7 cross pieces on ‘top. Put small drop of glue in each rebate and gently press front and rear into rebate. Square up so legs stand vertical, leave to dry. When dry, turn upright and measure and mark 44mm from the ground, Fit preassembled sides.on with verticals inside. = a Tape or clamp in place, do opposite side, then leave to dry. All finished ready for you to put into your scene, it can be left raw, weathered or painted. Have a beautiful rose or vine growing or dying on it or just ready for replanting.
