Ministry of Education Course Description: Biology, Grade 12 University Preparation SBI 4U

This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes that occur in biological systems. Students
will study theory and conduct investigations in the areas of biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, and population
dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on the achievement of detailed knowledge and the refinement of skills needed for further study in various
branches of the life sciences and related fields.
Prerequisite: Biology, Grade 11, University Preparation

Please review the Student Handbook pages 19-22 for a detailed review of our school-wide evaluation policy.

These policies are also available on our school website.

contact the teacher before the end of the school day explaining the absence."

Overall Learning Outcomes/Enduring Understandings for the course:

1.
2.
3.

Students will know the basic concepts of biology related to biochemistry, metabolism, photosynthesis, molecular genetics, biotechnology,
homestatsis and population dynamics.
Students will appreciate the implicit interrelationships between biology, biotechnology, society, the environment and their everyday lives
Students will enhance their problem solving skills, their skills of scientific inquiry through qualitative and quantitative laboratory
investigations, and their ability to apply concepts to real world situations.
