Environmental Control System

1.0 GENERAL
The Liebert InteleCool2 Environmental Control System was designed for convenience and dependability
in unmanned and remote locations typical of the telecommunications industry. Ease of installation,
operation and service coupled with the use of high-quality, high-reliability components make the Liebert
InteleCool2 ideally suited for maintaining an environment for sensitive electronic equipment.

1.1 STANDARD WARRANTY

For installations that operate within the United States, the unit shall have a one-year parts warranty and a
five-year compressor warranty. For complete details regarding the warranty terms, please refer to
warranty documents. Contact Emerson Network Power for details of warranty terms for installations
outside the United States.

1.2 SELF-CONTAINED

surface aluminum fins. Components shall be rated for up to 110F (43C) ambient.

2.1.5

EVAPORATOR BLOWER

Evaporator air shall be supplied by a direct drive blower package. Fans shall be centrifugal, double width,
double inlet.

2.1.6

FILTER

The filter shall be 2 in. (51mm) deep, pleated, with a minimum efficiency rating of MERV 7 per
ASHRAE Standard 52.2 (20% efficient per ASHRAE 52.1). Located within the cabinet, the filter shall be
serviceable from the front of the unit.

2.1.7

CABINET

The exterior cabinet shall be constructed of painted steel. Internal structural parts (including base) shall be
hot-dipped galvanized steel. The evaporator compartment shall be insulated with 1/2-in. (13mm) thick, 2
lb. (0.9kg) density, neoprene-faced, fiberglass insulation.

2.1.8

CONTROL INTERFACE

The unit shall be supplied with customary HVAC wiring designations (R, G, W, Y) inside the low voltage
partition of the unit electric box. The control interface can be provided by sources ranging from a wall
mounted thermostat, a Liebert control and monitoring system, or a third-party building management
control.

2.2 OPTIONAL FEATURES

2.2.1

COMPRESSOR LOCATION

The standard compressor location shall be on the right when viewing the unit mounted on a wall. The
optional compressor location shall be on the left to improve serviceability of the compressor when the
unit is installed as one unit of a pair.

2.2.2

COMPRESSOR CRANKCASE HEATER

An optional compressor crankcase heater shall be available for use with the scroll compressor, but shall
not be required because the Liebert InteleCool2 unit with scroll compressor refrigerant charge shall be
less than the compressor critical charge.

2.2.3

REFRIGERATION SYSTEM OPTIONS

2.2.3.1 LOW PRESSURE SWITCH AND LOW PRESSURE BYPASS TIMER

These options shall be added as safety devices to detect if the unit has any operational issues that will be
noted by low pressure. The low pressure switch shall be activated when the suction pressure drops its cutout setting. When activated, the compressor and condenser fan shall be shut down. The switch shall
automatically reset once the system pressure rises above its cut-in setting. The low pressure bypass relay
timer (winter start option) shall allow the system to start during low outdoor ambient temperatures. The
low pressure switch shall be bypassed with a time delay relay to allow the refrigerant pressure to rise.

Liebert InteleCool2

This option can be used for applications down to 50F (10C), for control down to -20F (-28.9C) use
the T-pack1 or T-pack2.
2.2.3.2 T-PACK1 = LP, LPBP & FCC
This option shall provide a Low Pressure Switch, a Low Pressure Bypass and a Fan Cycle Control. This
option package is one of the preferred control packages for the telecom industry applications. (See 2.2.3.1
for low pressure switch and low pressure bypass descriptions.)
Fan Cycle Control: Condenser Fan Cycling Control - Shall consist of a reverse-acting pressure
switch. During low outdoor temperatures, the pressure switch shall cycle the condenser fan to
maintain discharge pressures that shall allow the system to function. To be used when the outdoor
ambient is lower than 50F (10C), down to -20F (-28.9C).
2.2.3.3 T-PACK2 = LP, LPBP & FCCA
This option shall provide a Low Pressure Switch, a Low Pressure Bypass and an adjustable Fan Cycle
Control. This option package is one of the preferred control packages for the telecom industry
applications. (See 2.2.3.1 for low pressure switch and low pressure bypass descriptions.)
Adjustable Fan Cycle Control: Shall provide the same features and control as the fan cycle
control used in the T-pack1, except that it shall be adjustable.
2.2.3.4 LOCKOUT RELAY
The lockout relay shall latch the detection of a high-pressure condition in the refrigeration circuit and
shall prohibit operation of the compressor until the abnormal pressure conditions are acknowledged. The
lockout relay shall be reset by cycling the unit main power or by changing the setpoint on the thermostat
to temporarily eliminate a call for cooling. A normally open set of contacts shall be provided to
Terminals 2 and 3 of the customer terminal strip for monitoring the status of the lockout relay when this
option is supplied without the Common Alarm option.
2.2.3.5 COMMON ALARM
The common alarm shall provide the necessary components to detect high pressure, low pressure, high
temperature or loss of indoor air flow, to provide a customer signal via a contact closure. To detect low
pressure, the optional low-pressure switch with bypass timer, T-pack1 or T-pack2 must also be selected.

2.2.4

HIGH AMBIENT CONDENSER OPTION

This option shall be provided for applications where the ambient temperature exceeds the normal design
capabilities of the units. It shall consist of condenser motors and blades that shall be sized to provide
additional air flow across the condenser coil in these applications. For applications up to 120F (49C)
ambient.

2.2.5

HEAT

Heat shall be provided in a single stage from an open wire electric resistance element. Heating capacity
options available shall be 5 kW, 10 kW and 15 kW depending on unit model size.

3Guide Specifications

2.2.6

ECONOMIZER

The Economizer shall allow outside air to be introduced into the space through the evaporator filter when
conditions are favorable for Economizer cooling. An air damper and an actuator shall be automatically
controlled by an enthalpy sensor and a mixed air sensor. Mechanical cooling and economizer operation
shall not operate simultaneously.

2.2.7

FRESH AIR DAMPER

The fresh air damper shall allow outside air to be brought in to meet outdoor air requirements. Air shall be
drawn in through the evaporator filter. The amount of air to be introduced to the space shall be
field-selectable.

2.2.8

OPTIONAL PAINT COLORS

Optional color choices for the steel cabinet panels shall be almond (light tan, color option for original
Liebert InteleCool), desert brown, or bright white.

2.2.9

OPTIONAL ALUMINUM PANELS

This option shall provide aluminum cabinet panels in lieu of the standard painted steel cabinet panels.

2.2.10

SOFT START

The Soft Start shall provide a PTC resistor to assist the start of the compressor motor in low voltage
operation. Available on single-phase units only.
