HIV Infection Among Blacks, Georgia 2013

Data Source: GA Department of Public Health, HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Program

Nationwide, homicide is still the leading cause of death

for young black males ages 15 to 34.
Center for Disease Control (CDC), 2010

DID YOU KNOW?

In some states, Black men are incarcerated on drug charges at rates 20-50
times greater than those of white men. Yet, studies show that people of all
colors use and sell illegal drugs at remarkably similar rates.
Crimes committed by those of other races or those of other socio-economic
groups are often un-reported or under-reported.
In major cities wracked by the war on drugs, up to 80% of young African
American men now have criminal records and are thus subject to legalized
discrimination for the rest of their lives.
If current trends continue, one in three young African American men will serve
time in prison.
The United States imprisons a larger percentage of its Black population than
South African did at the heart of apartheid.
