It is now necessary to issue drawing standards co ensure conformity and understanding of drawings. This procedure lays out the requirements for producing standard CAD drawings, based on BS1192, that must be followed by all Estates and Facilities CAD users, Architects, Consultants or Contractors working on University projects and the drawings stored on the drawing database. 2.0 DEFINITIONS: 2.1 Current Building Floor Plans Current Building floor plans are the most recent set of CAD drawings available for each University building. They typically show walls, partitions, door and window structural openings, room areas and numbers etc. ‘These drawings are available on the Estates and Facilities J/Drive or can be provided by e-mail or on CD by the CAD Team if required, 2.2 External Reference ‘An external reference (Ref) is a drawing which is Imported and attached onto a host drawing. The Individual clements of this drawing cannot be altered within the host drawing: however layers applying to the XRef may be turned onloff as required, XRefs must be attached on to an appropriate layer name. Future alterations to an XRef will alter any other drawings that have the same XRef attached. 3.0 DRAWING PRODUCTION 3.1 Drawing Unies All drawings shall be drawn in Model Space at a scale of I:1 where one drawing unit = Imm. Angles shall be shown in decimal degrees and measured anti-clockwise with 0 measured as a horizontal ine drawn to the right. The preferred scales for use are: 1:1, 1:10, 1:20, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200, 1:250, 1:500 and 1:1250. 3.3 Drawing Revisions Drawing revisions shall be given an alphabetic issue letter which appears in the title box. Revisions to drawings shall be clouded to clearly outline the changes, and this shall be placed on its own layer. Revisions shall be described in sufficient detail to enable the nature of the revision to be identified and shall be located clearly in a revision box above the drawing ttle block. 3.3 Text styles Gill Sans and Palatino are the standard fonts of the University of Southampton visual identity guidelines and should be used for text on all drawings and documents. All drawings are to have a standard text height of 25mm, 3.5mm, 5.0mm and 7.0mm and a width no greater than I at a scale of I:I. For example a drawing drawn at [:100 would have a text height (in Model Space) of 250mm, and the height of the text in Paper Space would be 2.5mm. Text no smaller than 1.8mm should be used. 34 Text Height Table ‘Text Heights (mm) Drawing Scale (1: ) 28 35 5 7 1 (35 5 7 Saas 125 [zs 3B 35 10 a 35 50 70 20 70 100 140 50 175 [250 350 100 350° 500 700 200 7 700 1000 1400 250 [as 1250 1750 500 1750 2500 3500 1250 ‘B75 6250 8750 3.5 Dimensions Leaders (arrows) and dimensions must have solid arrow heads. Text/dimensions must be centred above the dimension line. Dimensions and Leaders to be located on corresponding layer and are to be scaled relative to the scale of the drawing. 3.6 Pen Settings Estates and Facilities Standard Pen Sottings (Estates and Faclities.ctb) ‘Colour No Pen Thickness Colour Plotted Colour on Screen 9 | 0.075 Grey 1 0.18 3 Red 6 sana | Come 3 Magenta 7 025 e WhierBlack 8 025 oa Dark Grey 2 03 3 Yellow 3 035 é Green 4 05 3 yan 5 07 A Bue 200 0.075 Purple 120 on Aqua 202 03 Dark Purple a 0.18 Dark Green| 720 0.18 Pink zl 025 Orange 140 025 - % Blue 250 025 a Dark Grey 252 025 = 30 035 g | Orange 50 oa 4 = “4 05 3 Brown 78 05 z Dark Green ma 1 2 Pink 40 025 Orange ‘Orange 8% 025 Dark Green Dark Green 180 025) Purple Purple 201 0.25 Mauve Mauve 221 0.25 Pink Pink 253 025 Grey Grey 10 o7 Red Red 34 o7 Brown Brown 80 07 Green Green Bo o7 Blue Blue If the recommended pen thicknesses and colours can not be used a .ctb plot style file must be supplied with the drawing files. ‘The use of the colour, pen thicknesses and line types is at the discretion of the drawing author but all must be drawn By Layer. 3,7 Line types Standard AutoCAD line types must be used, Site survey drawings showing main service supply routes may use custom line types such as: These custom line types must be supplied as a legend on the relevant drawings. 3.8 Areas (On any projects where a new space is created or an existing space is amended the GIFA and NETT areas in 'm, room numbers and room/space usage are to be shown. The GIFA and NETT areas are to be identified by polylines on the drawing and are to be stored on separate layers. GIFA Gross Internal Floor Area is the total area of buildings owned or occupied or maintained by the institution measured to the internal face of the perimeter walls at each floor level (ie the footprint of the building ‘excluding the width of the outside walls). It includes areas occupied by internal areas and partitions. Net Net Internal Area is the usable area within a building measured to the internal face of the perimeter walls at each floor level. NIA covers all areas which are used for a specific purpose. It does not include those parts of buildings which enable them to function. Balance areas include corridors and other circulation areas, internal ‘open-sided balconies, stairways, stairwells (and voids over), entrance lobbies, foyers, atria, lifts, lavatories and toilets, cloakrooms, cleaners’ stores, cleaners’ cupboards, plant rooms, tank rooms, fuel stores, loading bays, duets, boiler houses, permanent and continuous air conditioning and heating or cooling apparatus. 4.0 ROOM NUMBERING Guidelines for Numbering & Signing a Building 4.1 Allocation All room numbering is managed by the Estates and Facilities Space Management team. Requests for new or revised room numbering should be made to the Space management team via Janet Middleton, ihm |@soronac.uk. 5.0 DRAWING FRAME SETUP 5.1 Title Blocks Al drawings shall be drawn within the bounds of a Tide block. Estates and Facilities drawing title blocks are available electronically by e-mail or on CD. All drawing frames are to be scaled at 1:1 and must comprise of an outline frame, title block with all project information completed, a revision block and an approved University cof Southampton logo which can be found at the following link: hetpid/www.resource Lsoton.ac.uk/cams/marcomms/university_branding/brand_guidelines.hem| UNIVERSITY OF Southampton Title blocks shall be inserted into a drawing in Paper Space at an origin of 0,0. All title blocks will be in an attribute format with editing facility. Example of a typical Estates and Facilities Title Block: The following layer coding is listed as an example of typical layers used by the Estates and Facilities Department, All coding and layer definitions must be based on BS 1192 Guidelines. Estates and Facilities currently use AutoCAD 2006. AIICD's should be clearly labeled with the Project details, date and version of AutoCAD used. Please ensure that all drawings have been produced to the guidelines of this CAD document. Derails of any revision history must be shown on any issued drawing. 8.0 USE OF STANDARD SYMBOLS. 8.1 Mechanical & Electrical Symbols Simplified versions of the British Standard M&E symbols have been created for use on Estates and Facilities drawings as British Standard CAD symbols are considered too detailed to be successfully used on drawings at scales greater than 1:100. They are available electronically as Blocks from the Estates and Facilities CAD Team and on the J\Estates\Everyone\Drawings\Standard M&E CAD Symbols No other symbol should be used, unless agreed by the Project Manager and the CAD team. All symbols inserted into mode! space will need to be scaled in at the scale of the drawing and be inserted on the appropriate layer. 8.2 MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL SYMBOLS INDEX M&E Symbol Blocks can be Located in the following folder on the Estates and Facilites J Drive: ‘HV Estates\ Everyone\ Drawings\ Estates 8 Facilities CAD Standards\ Standard M&E CAD Symbols.
