what your personal views are you have to applaud Vince for this.
Although there is a problem. Can WM keep the momentum until April 2?
Will people decide that they cannot afford everything in April (UFC,
WM, Boxing), and have to choose only one? I think that there is no
doubt the numbers will get a boost but Vince could really get huge
numbers if he could remind the casual fan who may have lost interest
to order in April. I'm sure many people saw the LT spots and said
they would order but will they remember? I'd bet on Vince getting LT
on Conan and maybe even Letterman just before WM. That could be the
push they would need to order the PPV.
ECW - The prospect of a 3 way tag match continues ECW's new
policy of exceeding themselves every month at the ECW arena. I hope
they will release every show monthly onto video it's a great idea
which could generate more revenue from home video sales. The problem
is that they are a small organization and show many matches on TV.
This may put some off ordering because they can see some of the
matches on TV. I hope not, the main events are usually withheld and
well worth the cash every month.
Finally for those of you who don't read RSPW I am running a
poll on who should be champ and the greatest match in history. Send
your vote via E-Mail to Laret@aol.com. I think it is an interesting
way to judge opinions of the newsgroups. There are more HH fans out
there than I thought. So far Shawn and Bret are running neck and
neck for WWF Title. Sabu and Benoit for ECW are in a draw. Vader has
only 1 more vote then Hulk Hogan for WCW Title. If you want to
change any of these or vote for other people then send in your
votes. You can vote for any wrestler I have just mentioned the
current leaders but pick whoever you really believe should be
champion. Also send your votes for the greatest match in History.
Razor/Michaels and Flair/Steamboat are the leaders but vote for
whoever you like because they don't have a large lead. Until next
time, Rob AKA Laret@aol.com
FROM THE MIND OF THE MANIAC by "MANIAC" MIKE BLADE
"We're just under a week away from the greatest pay-per-view
event that doesn't really exist." (Add your own impersonation of
professional shill, Gene Okerlund.) This one could become an episode
of "The X-Files", Mulder thinks that it could happen the way it's
being promoted, Scully doubts it. (Nah, even Fox would go that low.)
If the WWFjr hasn't insulted you enough by having Ric Flair job
for That HH Guy . . . by having a dancing Nazi . . . by allowing
Eric Bischoff to single handily destroy any credibility they had
left, then by all means feel free to order "WWFjr Uncensored". Allow
them to walk away with your $25 and have a nice day. (By the way,
"WWFjr Uncensored" is a registered trademark. I have yet to
determine who owns the trademark as the event is Unsanctioned by the
WWFjr and therefore it becomes silly to think they would own a
trademark on something which they disavow.)
The good news, Nick Bockwinkle will not be in the building. Let
me make it clear that I have the highest regard for Mr. Bockwinkle.
His AWA days were some of the best in wrestling history. But some of
the garbage that Bischoff has him spewing is even beneath Jack T
Tunney.
More good news, Alex the Dancing Monkeyboy isn't on the card.
Let me make it clear that someday Alex Wright may be an exciting
wrestler. First, he needs to stop dancing. Then, he needs to get a
tag team partner to show him how to work a match. (Hey, it happened
for Bagwell.)
But I digress . . . more than usual.
This "Uncensored" nonsense proves just how far down the
really follow yet, because I only saw parts of the show. I was
impressed with the amount of weight Sgt. Slaughter lost.
The most recent news about WM, is that Owen Hart and a ? partner
will take on the Gunns. Who could this be? Nobody seems to know, but
the 123 kid is being talked about. Although, anyone, including an
ECW guy, is possible.
The Bob Backlund and Nick Taruntino (NYPD Blue), skit this past
weekend was one of the funniest skits they have done since DiBiase
came in, and was buying everyone.
NOTES FROM THE MAD DOG
Okay, okay, we have an issue to deal with that apparently has
touched a nerve with some of our readers. I didn't think it was a
problem, but then again, I'm so out of touch these days I
constantly send Ryan Cunnigham (who is still out of town), e-mail
to the e-mail address he closed out 6 months ago.
We're getting too big to please everyone.
Yes, it's a size issue.
For the last two weeks we have reached a point where it took
me a good hour to upload the entire Ring Report to all the on-line
services we're on. We have been *huge* lately and I will admit
that I've been fielding complaint messages about it.
Looking back in the records I noticed that the first issue of
the Ring Report was 8.83K, in comparison the issue #105 was 64.2K
and issue #106 was 61.0K on my harddrive. Do the math for
yourself, but it seems that we're at the point where every few
weeks we have abnormally large issues.
And people are complaining about it.
Why?
I'm not sure. We're a free publication, no one here is being
paid for their efforts, and we put out the best report we can each
week. Our target reader is the person who can't watch every TV
show or go to House shows in their area and needs something other
than Spock Meltzer's or Wade K.'s sheets to catch up with the
wrestling world and I honestly think we're doing a great job at it.
But the size complaints persist.
So what am I going to do?
Well, since I'm running this thing my decision is that we're
going to continue to provide the same TV and house show reports
that we always provide along with our columns, first hand accounts
of shows, and of, course, my usual rants and raves each week. In
fact, if we can we're going to get *even bigger* each week in order
to provide you with the best coverage of the Wrestling world that
we can do!
So what about those complaints?
Well, I'm going to give you as much advanced warning as I can
when I know that we're going to have a huge issue. The first of
these warnings happens RIGHT NOW. In our next issue we have 4
house show reports already lined up, along with the coverage of the
WCW PPV -- and I *know* we're going to be right back up at 61 or
62K on my harddrive. We may even have to delay the issue's release
until the morning of Monday the 20th due to the size matter.
Consider yourself warned because the issue is going to be
spectacular! ;)
Finally a couple of notes, we're welcoming back Michael Testa
this week from a short absence, and hopefully we'll have Ryan
Cunningham back from his trip to England next week. Dennis Miller
is looking for help finding a new satellite station that carries
NWA Wrestling as the station he had suddenly stopped broadcasting
this week, and finally, some news on Chris Yetman.
As you all know he's our PPV reporter and he's doing a great
job at covering all of the WCW and WWF pay-per-views. Well, this
week his jaw dropped when he realized that both the WWF and WCW
have added a few new PPV'S to their line-ups this year. Actually,
I think his jaw dropped further when he realized that covering both
would pretty much drain his pockets.
With that in mind I am suggesting the formation of the Chris
Yetman Couch Change fund-raiser. Yes, if you love his reports and
you actually have a habit of find money under the cushions of your
couch that you're willing to part with send it to Chris! It's
non-tax deductible, he'll probably take the money and run off to
Mexico, and you'll probably find less money under your cushions of
your couch than it costs to buy a stamp -- but hey, it's one way to
keep him happy and keep those reports coming!
Why don't I pay him off myself?
Umm . . .
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
