Now I'm confused. G31000.org, despite its somewhat misleading use of 'org' is a private
company. ISO 31000 is Not an auditable Standard - meaning that no organisation can be
certified as compliant with it by an certifier accredited by an IAF signatory. Which leads me
to wondering, what is the value of such a 'certificate'? And what is meant by 'professional
certification' ?

Jane,
You have joined recently (3 months ago) our LinkedIn group dedicated exclusively on the
internationally-adopted ISO 31000 risk management standard. Your confusion is the
consequence of your lack of knowledge and your lack of information on ISO standards.
G31000 AS NGO
The Global Institute for Risk Management Standards under the label G31000 is an
international Non-For-Profit association, Non-Governmental organization dedicated to raising
awareness on the ISO 31000 standard. See: http://goo.gl/TvgmYE. It has been created in
December 2011 and currently located in France. It is not a private company.
ISO STANDARDS
ISO develops and publish International Standards which can be Technical Specifications,
Management Systems, Certification or Guidance. Among the nearly 20,000 standards
published by ISO, ISO 31000:2009 is a Guidance Standard and this has be emphasized
numerous times in the G31000 discussion forum since its creation in March 2009. More
information on ISO standards here: http://www.iso.org/iso/home/standards.htm
ISO 31000, NOT A RISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR CERTIFICATION OF ORGANIZATION
The title of the document ISO 31000 is very clear: Principles and Guidelines . As such, ISO

31000 is a voluntary, not prescriptive document with no legal requirement and specifically
not intended for the certification of organization. Your reference to no organization can be
certified as compliant with it by an certifier accredited by an IAF signatory does not apply.
ISO 9001:2015 and RISK MANAGEMENT
Apparently, you have never read the ISO 31000 before making your comments. It will be
beneficial for you to become knowledgeable in risk management and ISO 31000 in particular
as it is now a new ISO requirement for all ISO Management Systems to introduce the concept
of risk, and the IS0 9001:2015 on which you are an expert is likely to refer to the ISO
31000 risk management standard.

INCREASE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON ISO 31000
When you have joined this discussion forum, you have received a link to a document listing
all previous discussions and comments from 2009 till 2013.

Before you post your next comment, please take the effort and the time to read previous
discussions. You will increase your knowledge in risk management in general.
HIGH DEMAND FOR TRAINING ON ISO 31000
Given the high demand for training on ISO 31000 as indicated in the First Global Survey on
ISO 31000 (http://goo.gl/YBHWbc) , the Global Institute G31000 has developed with its
network of experts on ISO 31000, a course and examination leading to the Certification
C31000. While other organizations are now proposing similar programs, some of them with
open book examination, the Global Institute G31000 has become the best reference in terms
of knowledge delivered, rigorous examinations and wide coverage with courses proposed
across countries, industries and sectors, so that we are building a global community of ISO
31000 risk professionals in a Global Platform.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION
The G31000 certificate on ISO 31000 stipulates that you have a good knowledge and
understanding on the content of ISO 31000:2009 and its vocabulary, principles, framework
and process. The C31000 label refers to Certified ISO 31000 Risk management professionals,
thus the 'professional certification'.
PLAN YOUR OWN ISO 31000 TRAINING
We are currently planning future courses and certification on ISO 31000, worldwide for 2015.
Please share with us when and where such a course should be proposed to you. Here is a
quick 5-min survey: http://G31000.org/survey/

Alex... I am left speechless by your tone and treatment of Jane's comments. I believe by the
way she couched the question she is correct and should be answered and not dismissed. By
your own words, 31k cannot be audited as would 9k for it is a guidance document and not a

management standard.
yes 9k et al 2015 refers to Risk Assessment as a Process as "part of" a management
system.
I won't comment on the rest of the comments.

John,
I believe that her question has been answered with great length.
The ISO 31000 is the only international risk management standard adopted by more than 50
countries as their national standard. It is a Guidance standard which is not intended to be
served as a basis for certification [of organisations] see : http://goo.gl/WZDky.
Today, The Global Institute G31000 has built a network of trainers
(see :http://G31000.org/training/certified-professionals-2/) in order to cover the demand for
training, worldwide.
Following the announcement of our partnership with RISKIA covering the demand (in
Spanish) from Spain and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America
(http://G31000.org/riska/) we are pleased to formalize our partnership with QSP, Quality,
Safety and Productivity Center for Brazil and Latin America, non-profit technical and
scientific association proposing training and professional ISO 31000 certification in Brazil
through approved National Examination (in Portuguese) on the ISO 31000 standard.
The first session is scheduled in February 2015.
See :http://www.qsp.org.br/capacitacao_gr.shtml
We are confident that QSP will help risk professionals, like Quality Management Consultants
as Jane to gain adequate knowledge on ISO 31000.

John,
The course on ISO 31000 offered by QSP (from 2007 to 2010 it was based on AS/NZS 4360)
is not aimed to prepare professionals to audit risk management systems, but to prepare
them to be proficient in the understanding and application of the ISO 31000 standard. The
purpose of the examination is to test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of the
standard.
