Overview
The Lan Drive enclosure providing a central storage for the data and let you share the data
from the network. It will make you more convenient by the network-attached storage when you
at home or on businesses trip.

Connecting the LanDrive to your Computer
The LanDrive is a multifunctional hard drive enclosure. It can use as a network storage
deviee, and also as a stand alone external hard drive via the USB interface.
Max OS X

Mac OS 10.1.2 or above is not required for the driver installation. Just connect the Lan Drive
with the provided USB cable, and then access ta the data by click the "Untitled" HDD icon which
located on your Desktop.

Windows XP & Windows ME

Windows XP and Windows Me are not required for the driver installation. Just connect the
Lan Drive with the provided USB cable and then access ta the data v ia "My Computer".

Windows 98 (Download Drivers)

Please ensure that you install the deviee driver before connecting the USB port. Reboot your
computer after finished the driver installation, and t hen connect the LanDrive ta your computer
and access ta the data via "My Computer.

Connecting to your Network

Connect the power adapter ta the back panel of the Lan Drive and plug the other end ta a
wall outlet or power strip. Connect the network cable ta the LAN port on the back of the
Lan Drive , and the other end connect ta the port on your HUB, switch or router.
The Ethernet port on the Lan Drive is Auto-MDI/MDIX, which means you can connect it

by either or direct network cable.

Conflguring the Lan Drive


The Lan Drive features a web-based control interface to manage your settings. If your
operating system is not Windows, please refer to next section labeled "Other Operating
Systems".
Open your web browser and input http://Storage or http ://Storage-XXXX in t he URL address
field.

You can aIso input the IP address of the Lan Drive .

For security purposes, your login information can be changed via the web control interface
When two new LanDrive s connect to your network simultaneously, please distinguish them by inpu
"http:// Storage-XXXX'" with their unique MAC address. For the address please refer to the sticker on the
rear panel and replace XXXX with the last four digits of the MAC address.
For example if your LanDrive 's MAC Address is 00-14-3F-AA-01-68, then you need to input
" http:I/Storage-0168" in the URL address field.

Conflguring the.LanDrive (Other Operating Systems)

When you plan to perform administrative tasks from a different operat ing system , please
in put IP address of the LanDrive in the URL address field .
If you do not know the IP address of the Lan Drive , please connect the Lan Drive to the
computer directly, then input the default IP address 169.254.0. 1 in the browser URL address
fie ld to access the web control panel.
After you log in, you will see the fo llowing screen :

An overview description of t he functio ns on the left menu bar:


Status Show the data related to your Lan Drive such as networking status and hard drive

information. You can edit, administer and set the language here .
IP Config Allow you to configure the IP address of the LanDrive manually
Maintenance Perform firmware upgrade, reboot or reset the Lan Drive
SMB Server Configure th e Sa mba feature of LanDrive for th e home/office network fi le

sharing ca pabilities . You can also create/delete/modify folders and their share
permissions.

FTP Server Configure the FTP features of the Lan Drive . You may create/delete/mod ify users

and their permissions.


Disk Utility Perform hard drive maintenance routines such as Scandisk and Format.

The welcome screen displays the IP address, firmware version and the hard drive
information such as the hard drive type and available storage space.

The administrator can change the login information on the web control panel.
You can change the default hostname of your LanDrive here also. But remember that aft
you change th e hostname, you will use it to access your Lan Drive in the future . For example
you changed your hostname to "FileServer", please input "http://FileServer" to access the W
Control Panel after you submitted your changes.
At present, this LanDrive only support English language.
When you reset the Lan Drive , either by the hardware switch or through the web control panel, aU
settings wi ll retum to the default setting including the hostname. The default hostname will remain as

Storage-XXXX (where XXXX is the last four digits of the MAC address).

The administrator can use this option to defi ne the IP address of the LanDrive manually. If
the hub/router/switch has a DHCP server in your network, then the LanDrive will assign an IP
address automatically.
The LanDrive can act as a DHCP server also when there have no DHCP server in your network. The
default
IP of the LanDrive in DHCP server mode is "169 .254 .0.1 and any deviee that linked ta the network will

assigned an JP of "169 .254.0.x" automaticall y.

and refresh your browser.

Samba enables the main function of the Lan Drive is network file sharing. This option allows
the administrator to determine which folders/directories to be shared.
You can create, rename and delete folders/directories in your Lan Drive . Ali the
folders/directories in the root directory (in your hard drive before installed in the Lan Drive ) will
also show in the "Folder List".
The swap buttons in the middle are used to determine the folder/directory whether to be
shared. Password protection for each shared folder can also be implemented.
When create folders/directories on the web control panel, please named it in English only.

Abbreviated from File Transfer Protocol, FTP enables file exchange between computers on
the Internet. The Lan Drive can work as a stand-alone FTP server when it assigned a static IP.
Anonymous FTP is disabled by default .

The administrator have the authority to determine whether the users can read or write the
files and the "Root Directory" will be the folder/directory, the anonymous user can access to the
files after login.
The Account List displays the quantity of the current FTP users, and the administrator can
add new users, modify permissions, temporary disa ble users and delete users.

If you installed a new unformatted hard drive in the Lan Drive , please format it to the FAT32
format.
The Lan Drive supports power management, so you can determine the time for the LanDrive
to stay in sleep mode.
The Scan Disk function can be used to detect potential problems with the hard drive. Click
the refresh button to display the scandisk result.
Access Files from the Lan Drive - Windows
In Windows, searching the Lan Drive in the "Network Neighborhood" (as a computer named
"Storage") could access the data. Or you can access to the data in the LanDrive as the following
instructions:

Click the Windows Start butten, select "Ru n" from the menu and a dialogue box will appear.
Type "\\storage" in the field and click "OK".
If you have changed the Lan Drive hostname, th en you should replace the ward "'storage" ta it. For

The Windows Explorer will appear and you can see ali the folders, which have selected to
share under "SM B Server" in the control panel.
Click the corresponding folder will revea l the fi les in that fo lder.

Access Files from the LanDrive- Mac OS

Th e following screenshots are ta ken from a iMac running OS 10.3.x and may vary from yours
slightly.
Under Finder, select Go>> Connect to Server or use the hotkey<Command +K>

The dialogue box "Connect to Server" will appear.


Type "smb: //storage" and click the connection button.
If you have changed the LanDrive hostname, please replace the ward "storage" to it. For example, if you
changed your hostname ta "FileServer", plea se type "smb ://Fi leServer" instead.

The next dialogue screen will prompt you that the fo lder you will access. Select it and click the OK
button.
You might be prompted to in put a password, if you have input it previously and assigned in the
control panel, then you can leave it blan k. After a successful mount, a network fo lder icon wi ll be
created based on the fo lder you have selected.

1. The Lan Drive displays error messages

Please ensure you update patches for your operating system frequently .
2. Does the LanDrive support power management?
Yes, when there isn't any hard drive activity within fifteen minutes, the Lan Drive will power
down to reduce power consumption. The sleep ti me can be configured via the web control panel.

3. How does the LanDrive achieve its data sharing capabilities?

Utilizing the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol, the Lan Drive allows any computer users who
support TCP/IP, NetBuei or IPX/SPX to share the files. The built-in FTP server also allows any users
with Internet connectivity to access the LanDrive.
4 . What is the size limitation for the LanDrive?

The LanDrive support LBA (48-bit Logical Block Addressing), which includes ali hard drives from
32 gigabytes to 2 terabytes in theory.
S. Why the Lan Drive only support FAT32 format?
As a cross platform file server, FAT32 format is compatible with ali major operating systems
(Windows/Mac 05/Linux). The only drawback of FAT32 format is that the size limitation of single file
is 4 gigabytes.
6. How does the LanDrive DHCP service work?

The LanDrive will work as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server when it does
not detect other DHCP servers in its network . DHCP is an Internet protocol for automating the
configuration of computers that use TCP/IP to assigning IP addresses automatically.
7. What are the naming limitations of the files located ln the LanDrive?

The maximum length of a folder/directory/file name is 12 characters. Invalid characters such as


"* \ : " < > . ? /" can not be used.
8. What kind of hard drive is compatible with the LanDrive?

The LanDrive supports 3.5" Ultra DMNATA hard drives which are mostly manufactured after
1998. Below is a list of manufacturer websites that you can get more information about the hard
drive you own.
