CourseDescription
Recenttrendsinhighereducationaredemandingmoreaccountabilityandassessmentfromthe
academiclibraryenvironment.Thisincludesassessmentininformationliteracyinstruction.Doyou
finditdifficulttoincorporateassessmentstrategiesintoyouroneshotlibraryinstruction?Thisfour
weekcoursewilldemonstratehowtocreateanduseeffectiveassessmentstrategiesthatcanfitintothe
timeconstraintsofoneshotlibraryinstruction.Thiscoursewillprovideexamplesofhowtoseamlessly
placeiclickertests,groupactivities,worksheetsandgamingtechniquesintoyoursessionsthatwill
provideyouwithmeaningfulassessmentdata.Theweeklymoduleswillpresentengagingopportunities
forinstructionlibrariansfromalltypesoflibrariestodiscuss,collaborateandcreatetoolsthatwill
supportthevalueofassessingoneshotlibraryinstruction.Participantswillreceiveconcreteexamples
ofeffectiveassessmentstrategies,avarietyofbestpracticesforassessingdataandexamplesofhowto
provideyourinstitutionwithevidencebasedconclusionsonhowyourinformationliteracyprogramis
impactingstudentlearning.Thiscourseisrelevanttoalllibrarianswhoteachclassesorworkshopsthat
focusoninformationliteracyskills.

CourseStructure
Thiscoursewillincludeweeklymultimedialessons,requiredreadings,structuredforumsand
assignments.Thecourseoutlineliststheweeklyassignmentsdetailsareprovidedinthecourse
materialsforeachweek.Seebreakdownofthecoursestructureatthebottomofthisdocument.

VideoLessons
Eachweektherewillbeavideolessonforyoutoview.Transcriptsofeachweeksvideolessonwill
alsobeavailableforyoutoread.Thetranscriptsarelocatedineachweekstemplatesfolder.Thevideo
lessonswillcoverdifferenttopicsasoutlinebelowinthecourseoutline.

RequiredReading
Eachweektherewillbearequiredarticleforyoutoread.Thesearticlesaremeanttocomplimentthe
conceptsyouhavelearnedinthevideolessons.Yourreflectionsoneacharticlewillbeincorporated
intoeachweeklyassignment.

Assignments
Eachweekyouwillbeproducingatangibleartifact(yourcompletedassignment)thatwillbebasedon
whatyoulearnedintheweeklyvideos.Theassignmentswillbecompletedandthenuploadedintothe
weeklyforum.Theseassignmentsalsobuilduponeachother.Belowisabriefdescriptionofeach
weeklyassignment.
Week1:Participantswillapplythebestpracticesthattheylearnedintheweekonevideobycreatingalessonplanfor
aspecificlibraryworkshopthattheyhavepreviouslytaughtorselectfromthesampleworkshopsprovided.
Week2:Buildingupontheweekoneassignment,participantswillupdatetheirlessonplanandcreateanassessment
toolfortheirlibraryworkshop.
Week3:Participantswillupdatetheirlessonplanandparticipateinascenariobasedlearningexercise.Thisexercise
willallowthemtopracticecollecting,organizingandevaluatingassessmentdata.
Week4:Participantswillrespondtoascenariobasedexercisethatwillencouragethemtodevelopstrategiesforusing
assessmentdatatocreatechangeintheirinstructionandinformationliteracyprograms.

WeeklyForums
Youwillusetheweeklyforumstouploadyourcompletedassignmentandshareitwiththeother
participants.Therewillalsobequestionswithintheforumthatyouhavetoanswerthatrelatetoyour
assignment.IfyouhaveanyquestionsyoucanpostthemintheforumthatislabeledQuestions.

Synchronous(Live)Discussion
InordertogivetheparticipantsanopportunitytointeractwitheachotherduringweektwoWednesday,
May14at1pmtherewillbealivediscussion.Pleasenote,thislivediscussionisnotarequired
assignment.Thisdiscussionwillbeusedasacheckinopportunitytodiscussthecourse,the
assignmentsandanyotherquestions.

Weeks13havetemplatefolders.Inthetemplatesfolderyouwillfindstrategies,toolsandlesson
plansthatyouhavelearnedaboutduringeachweekslesson.Thesetemplatesareforyoutouseduring
