LAURA BECK
Executive Vice President, Managing Director, Porter Novelli Austin

Laura brings 16 years B2B, consumer and corporate PR


experience, mostly in technology, to clients. Over the past
several years, Beck and the Austin PN team have really
honed their skills around start ups, and launches of all sorts
– whether a company and/or its solutions, or a new product
or focus area for an existing/established company. Beck’s
personal expertise lies in account and project management,
strategy and counsel, media relations and staff
development. She prides herself with being active on the
press front lines every day and loves nothing better than
successfully placing a good story.

Beck has been with Porter Novelli for 11 years, three and a half with the
Boston office, working on such clients as CMGI, Cruise Technologies,
Datamedic, EMC, FamilyEducation.com, PinPoint, Sterling Commerce and
ZEFER. In late 1999, Beck moved to Austin, TX to kick off Porter Novelli's
Austin office, open September 2000.

Beck manages the Porter Novelli Austin office, now at 17 employees, and
presently services a mix of clients – from established to mid-stage to brand
new start-ups, including: GSD&M, HP and PwC; Lombardi, Planview, Postilion
(a division of S1) and Vignette; and FiveRuns, iovation, Like.com (and Riya),
LiveMocha, National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and Radar Networks.
Beck and her team are also proud of their work with SXSW’s Interactive
conference, Bay Partners (a west coast VC), the exclusive DEMO conferences,
and the recent return of the Industry Standard.

Past clients of note, many that have really honed the Austin team’s skills in
enterprise software, networking, security, wireless and consumer electronics,
include: Bluetooth SIG, Business Objects, Motive (and its BroadJump
acquisition), Mozes, Parrot, Sevin Rosen Funds, SNOCAP, Wallop, Wireless
Valley (now part of Motorola), NetQoS and WholeSecurity (now part of
Symantec). Beck and her team have also provided cross-PN support to a
variety of clients including McAfee, Plantronics, Sony, TeleAtlas and Wells
Fargo.

Beck's personal technology expertise spans enterprise and telco software,


networking, security, broadband, wireless, Internet/Web 2.0, VC, CRM,
storage and consumer electronics. She has hands-on experience working
with start-up companies, including inception/launch/initial messaging through
taking a company to IPO or merger/acquisition. Beck also has skill in media
and analyst relations - including business, financial and vertical press,
customer qualification, document development and plan execution
capabilities.
Previously, she was with Lois Paul & Partners, where for three
years, she serviced the Lotus account. Prior to LP&P, Beck worked with the
Weber Group. Beck holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from
Boston College and is the proud mom of 3 year old Thea Fenway (yes, as in
the Red Sox).
AAREN WEIDNER
Account Supervisor, Porter Novelli San Francisco

Aaren Weidner has eight years of public relations


experience working on accounts ranging from biometric
technologies to consumer entertainment and hardware
products. Based in Porter Novelli’s San Francisco office,
Aaren specializes in corporate messaging and
positioning, media and analyst relations, and
product/campaign launches.

Since joining Porter Novelli in 2004, Aaren has worked


with companies such as Qualcomm, Plantronics, and
Hewlett-Packard, for whom she managed real estate
and healthcare-focused public relations programs for two years. Additionally,
she led public relations efforts for Pay By Touch, a San Francisco-based
consumer biometric payment company, where she focused on generating
national awareness of the Pay By Touch service through media and analyst
relations, creative consumer launch campaigns, and an executive thought
leadership platform. Throughout her experiences with all of these clients,
Aaren has secured news coverage in consumer, business, financial, security
and online outlets including The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes,
Fortune, MarketWatch, and the Financial Times, among others.

Prior to joining Porter Novelli in 2004, Aaren worked for a boutique public
relations and advertising agency in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she managed
public relations for clients including Realty Executives International, Flood
Control District of Maricopa County, Phoenix Art Museum, The Westin Kierland
Resort & Spa, and Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night.

Aaren earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism from The


University of Arizona, where she also served as editor-in-chief of The
Tombstone Epitaph, Arizona’s longest-running newspaper.
LISA PETERSON
Account Supervisor, Porter Novelli Austin

Lisa brings eight years of consumer, tech and


entertainment experience to the Porter Novelli Austin
office. During her tenure, she has managed strategic
public relations programs for a wide array of technology
clients. Lisa’s current and previous client work include
serving as lead for vertical PR programs for HP, executing
company and product launch strategies for Web 2.0 start-
up companies such as Like.com, and helping catapult
new technologies such as Bluetooth into mainstream
culture via key press and analyst relationships. In
addition, Lisa has led the PricewaterhouseCoopers
MoneyTree account for five years, helping secure the
quarterly venture capital survey as the number one news
generator for the entire organization.

With prior background in entertainment, Lisa enjoys assisting other Porter


Novelli offices with events and celebrity relations that have included securing
top tier talent such as Kelly Ripa for a Muppets fundraiser, conducting the
global launch of HP’s Halo Collaboration Studio with DreamWorks’ Jeffrey
Katzenburg, and managing SuperBowl promotions for Gillette with football
star Steve Young.

Prior to joining Porter Novelli, Lisa worked for entertainment public relations
firm Rogers & Cowan in New York City representing music legends such as
Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and the Allman Brothers. In
addition to managing publicity for her musician clients, her responsibilities
included planning and securing top media and celebrities for awards shows,
music events, fashion shows and other entertainment occasions including the
GQ Men of the Year Awards and Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

Lisa’s passion lies in media relations, having secured national placements for
her clients in highly visible media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, USA
Today, Businessweek and CNN.

Lisa graduated from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor of arts
in communication with a minor in marketing.
