Adventure
Message for the
Month:
Thank
the
Lord for all
the trials

Thirty-nine families left

their homes behind as
they pack and carried
personal belongings to Q
Park, Compostela for the
Family Summer Camp
Adventure. The weekend
activity happened on May
26-27, 2012.
The activity started in
the morning of May 26,
with the registration and
setting up of tents. Some
members, mostly the governance team, opted to be
at Q Park as early as Friday afternoon to prepare
the place.
A short praise and

While the fathers and
mothers were preparing
for lunch, the units and
their members
were
introduced through a

Tithing

Teaching

Tithing was the

teaching given on May 4,
2012, first Friday. Area
Managing Director (AMD)
for the Visayas, Nelson
Dauz, gave a very good
presentation of the topic.
First, he had the members present come together as Action Group.

He gave them questions

for discussion after which
three reporters shared
the reason why they
tithe and what are their
difficulties. Then three
members who tithe regularly gave some sharing
on tithing.

bread.
After the sumptuous lunch,
kids and adults alike had fun
playing games. Laughter broke
loose as participants tried to
Untangle the Tangle, a mind
boggling game facilitated by Former Formation Director Gil
Sanchez.
Around 3:30pm Mario Marababol, Administrator of Ocean
Care Advocates Inc. (OCAI),
gave the group a short lecture
on environment awareness and
care. It was a very informative
talk challenging those present to
reassess their attitude towards
caring for our countrys natural
resources.
After dinner, a film showing
Facing the Giants was held at
the foot of the stairs leading to
the Shrine. This was followed by
the bonfire and the releasing of
paper lanterns which ended the
evening activities.

The road...

In spite of the dark clouds

that hovered over the place
Saturday afternoon, the rain did
not pour.
Almost everybody was up
early on Sunday morning. The
men set up the venue for the
breakfast fellowship while the
ladies and children lined up for
their turn to take a bath. Makeshift bathrooms were set-up for
the purpose thus minimizing the
long queues at the comfort
rooms.
The breakfast fellowship
started at 8am as everybody
gathered to listen to the sharing
of the Gula family. Jun and Nery
Gula together with their five
children gave an inspiring sharing
that centered on the Christian
family. A family/group discussion
followed with environment care
and the family sharing as topics
for discussion.

and their accompanying adults

went down to Heroes Hall
where a lecture about the Filipino heroes was given by King
Decrepito, a professor from the
University of San Carlos.
The weekend activity ended
with a boodle fight style lunch.
Everybody had fun trying to
have their fill using their hands.
When lunch was over, all that
was left on the table were the
banana leaves.
The Holy mass which was
scheduled at 11am that morning
was cancelled. CH Guy Ceniza
enjoined the 133 participants
present at the camp site not to
miss the Holy Mass that day, it
being Pentecost Sunday.
The Family Summer Camp,
the first of its kind for the chapter, was a big success. Congratulations are in order to the
governance team for a job well
done.

The following are the reasons why people dont give Tithe:
What is tithing to
me?

Nene Tampus

1.

They believe its only for the people of the Old Testament time. For us in
the New Testament, we can give as the Spirit of God leads us to give. Any
amount will do. Any time will do.
2. They believe in tithing but their income are not enough.
3. They want to tithe but something happens that prevent them from giving
tithes consistently, like someone in the family gets sick, a friend asked for
help, etc.
4. Instead of giving tithes to church and BCBP, they give their tithes to their
poor relatives.
5. They dont give their tithes because they dont know how their tithes are
spent.
6. Is tithe based on gross or net?
7. They reason out that God doesnt need it. He owns the heavens & the
earth.
8. I tithe occasionally if there is excess. God will understand.
9. I thought my love offering to the collection bag is already enough.
10. Tithing was a commandment made my Church (BCBP) not by God.
11. My tithe is my time and service.
12. Many other reasons

Tithe is the rent that we pay for using this earth and all around us.
Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you ask, How are
William and Liza
Cejas

we robbing you? In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

Basic truths on Tithing written on the Bible:

1. That God loves us and He wants all our affairs including our financial responsibility be directed by the Holy Spirit.
2. God is our creator and owner of everything including money.
3. We are only stewards not masters or owners including money.
If we believe in these basic truths, then theres no reason why we must not
tithe.

It is strange how a P100 bill appears to be large amount when given as love
offering but too small when you go shopping.

We dont tithe to expect that God will bless us in return. Our greatest motivation must be: We tithe because its our way of expressing our gratitude to
Gods goodness.

The love of money is the root of all evil. You cannot love both God & mammon. Either you hate one & love the other.

Focus on the beautiful things in life, for life is too short to be wasted on worries. Think of the solutions not the problem and remain good even if others are not.

Teaching
I Am The Bread of Life (John 6:35)
Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Jesus said to them, I Am telling you the truth: if you do not eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink His blood, you will not have life in yourselves. Those who eat
My flesh and drink My blood have eternal life, and I will raise them to life on the last
day. (John 6:53-54). This is the famous statement of our Lord Jesus Christ to those
who were listening to Him that led to revolt against Him not only by the Jews but
also some of His followers. The background of the statement was after he fed 5,000
men, the people were looking for Him for the sole purpose of being fed again, but
instead He offered them His body and blood. Out of cultural understanding of eating flesh and drinking blood, the Jews detested His offer, but He actually wanted
them to understand His point of the offer. As people who are in a cult or in covenant will go as far as using flesh and blood to seal their bond of unity and agreement, so also Jesus wanted to do same with the people listening. And like most of
what He did in the new covenant He replaced the use of flesh and blood with bread
and wine, the matter differed but the substance remain the same and hence the
understanding too, bond of unity and sameness of thought.
In giving us His flesh and blood Christ is using one stone to kill two birds. First
of all, doing that is a total giving of Himself to the world. Like a woman giving her
breast milk to her child, Christ fed us from within and not with something from the
outside. In this way His sacrifice on the cross became that oblation which He uses
to nourish our hunger while still here on earth. Secondly, eating His body and
drinking His blood preserves the body of the faithful after death and has the power
to raise same up on the last day. The eating of the flesh and drinking of the blood is
to be done in two interdependent ways, listening and sharing the word of God and
receiving the Holy Eucharist. Each can stand on its own but never complete. The
road to Emmaus story is a perfect example of the two ways of eating the flesh and
drinking the blood. Where the two disciples heard Jesus explaining the scripture
with their heart burning like flame and they recognized Jesus on breaking the bread
in their home. As Catholics we have the complete ways when we attend the Mass
where the word is shared and the bread broken. Each time we do that we enter
into a covenant with our Lord Jesus Christ. As I said both could stand on its own.
Just like we read the scripture at home or in community, we are also entering into
covenant with Jesus or when we receive communion without attending Mass like in
the hospital or sick at home. But one should not be practiced all the time like some
born again Christians do or some Catholics that have stopped receiving holy Communion.
The body and blood of Christ is different from manna that fell from heaven for
the people of Israel. With the manna, they ate and died. But the body and blood of
Christ gives eternal life to anyone who eats and drinks. So our reception of the
Holy Communion is meant to prepare us for eternal life. It nourishes our souls and
spiritual lives, while keeping us in check against temptations and sins. Slowly but
surely leading to eternal union with Christ in Heaven where He is Lord and prince
of all.

Happiness cant be found at the end of the road, it is experienced along the way, so take
not for granted each moment of your life and find reasons to be happy always.

Chapter Heads Message

CH Guy and Eden Ceniza

Kudos to all who in one way or the

other contributed to the success of the
Family Summer Camp Adventure as
shown by the happy faces of the participants in spite of the inconveniences
brought about by the absence of the
comforts of our own homes. Such experiences definitely gives the participants the learning/s money cannot buy.
Something worth treasuring.
Hopefully these learning/s will remind
us of our mission to be a good follower
of Christ. That we are just stewards of
the many things God has provided us on
this earth.

May we continue the zeal of service

as our community moves forward in
furthering its mission and vision.
A million thanks to all who took part
of the activity. Without your share I
dont think it will be what it was. Looking
forward for the same in the coming activities.
God bless.

Families are Treasures

Nery Gula

Family bonding at its best. That is how

I describe the Family Summer Camp
Adventure that we had last May 26 and
27.
It was the first time we camped as a
family. All of us made it. Including our
pet Panny. God in His perfect timing
allowed us to be together. Our two girls
just finished their summer classes allowing them to be with us.
Being the family sharer for the breakfast was just amazing. It showed how
God work in our lives. You see, when
we opened to the children that they
were to have a part of our sharing, the
first reaction was, No way! And so we
had the workshop with only Marie doing
her part. However, the panel suggested
that it would be better if all of the children will give a short sharing. And so we
said, We will try.
Wonder of all wonders! When we
asked them again, they said yes. That
easy! We can never underestimate

Gods power. I know He touched my

children.
As it turned out, the weekend activity did great things to us as a family.
We were able to connect with other
families while playing, cooking, watching
the film showing, laughing our hearts
out, listening to the lectures and most
of all marveling at Gods beautiful creation. In fact, Marie wishfully said: Next
year Ma, camping na sad ta. Lain na sad
na place. I completely agree.
I salute all the parents who took
time to bring their families to the camp.
More so to the single ladies: Ate
Susan Daclan, Ate Veron Potot, Ate
Nara Paradero, Ate Linda Gastador,
Ate Del Comar, Ate Ching Sagarino,
and Ate Grace Plaza. Without their
better half, they enjoyed the weekend
activity with their love ones and the
community.
For in BCBP families are treasures.

Just think of how rich you are, your family is priceless, your time is gold, your health is wealth, and
your Savior is your richest source of all.
