After a very enjoyable and
sumptuous potluck breakfast,
Ram Loterte and Eddie Ramirez

portion of the day. It was participated by the members and their
kids.
While the games were going
on, other brothers prepared the
place for the Pacquiao fight
which incidentally happened on
the same day. Other brothers
and sisters took the time to
attend the 10am Holy Mass at
the IAU Chapel.
The shocking result of the
fight did little to dampen the
joyful atmosphere of the celebration. The party went on with
the raffles, the presentations, the
dancing and the exchange of
gifts.

Next Christmas, December 25 th 2013

Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

Fr. Martin

Why was Christmas

necessary? Because
we needed a Savior!

The Christmas of 2012 is gone, but the good news is that, this year had
been scheduled and I can prove it to you if you look at your calendar. What did
we learn from the yearly event in the Christian world, or is it part of the world
shows that helps businesses and entertainment all over?
The true meaning of Christmas is love. John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." The true meaning of
Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love.
The real Christmas story is the story of God's becoming a human being in
the Person of Jesus Christ. This was possible because of the purity of Mary, who
became the mother of the incarnate God. Why did God do such a thing? Because
He loves us! Yes God loves and ready to die for the humanity He created, such is
his love for us. Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! Not
only a Savior, but a brother who is close at hand, comforting, consoling, encouraging and leading us back to our Father. Why does God love us so much? Because He is love itself (1 John 4:8). Why do we celebrate Christmas each year?
Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each
other gifts, worshipping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less
fortunate.
The true meaning of Christmas is love. God loved His own and provided a
way - the only Way - for us to spend eternity with Him. He gave His only Son to
take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from
condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. "But God demonstrated His
own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans
5:8). How can we live out same life of Love that God has shown for us? Like
Mary, she received the good news with joy, so shall we, she accepted the will of
God for her even though it was difficult to understand and needed Elizabeth to
explain to her, so shall we and finally she carried out the work of love in visiting
Elizabeth helping her in her needs and forgetting hers, so shall we also. By doing
these, we put aside the pompous celebrating that we are used to during the
Christmas season and begin to do what is meaningful, listening and hearing the
word of God, believing and accepting it and living it out in our lives. Praying for a
better 2013 for all of us and the whole world and the baby Jesus born for us lead
us throughout the year and God bless.

The heart that loves is always young; the heart that serves is always happy; and the
heart that cares is always strong. So stay young, happy and strong.

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2013!

Page 11

As the clock strike 12 on January 1, we outdo each other in welcoming the new year
2013. Some prepared a lot to the point of giving in to many practices that are not consistent with our faith.
Coming from an early morning Mass on January 31, I bought flowers. I planned to arrange flowers for our altar and for our chapel to honor Mama Mary on her feast day (Jan
1) as Mother of God. The flowers were unusually expensive on that day. I learned later
that the high cost was triggered by another superstitious belief.
From the market, we passed by a grocery store to purchase some items needed for the
media noche. Jun bought two medium-size guavas. While lining up to have our purchases cashed, the cashier asked, Maam mutoo sad mog trece classes. I answered, No,
we dont. The conversation led me to explain to the cashier as well as the saleslady our
stand. That these practices undermines our faith. That God, the giver of all, will bless us
with or without trece classes. I shared to them my secret of being blessed. I told them:
Be generous to others and give to God. They nodded saying: Bitaw maam no, kay kalooy ba namong way ikapalit. I went home happy to have shared my faith.
In this year of Faith, may we have a better resolve to live a live of an unwavering and
committed faith.
A blessed New Year to one and all!

Nery Gula

Sometimes we wish we could read other peoples minds, but God didnt give us that ability.
Why? So we could have the chance to trust and the privilege to be trusted.

Happy New Year!
