Monthly Reflection
"...Dear brothers and sisters, may the Holy Spirit today enlighten our hearts, that we may
recognize in the Infant Jesus, born in Bethlehem of the Virgin Mary, the salvation given by God
to each one of us, to each man and woman and to all the peoples of the earth. May the power of
Christ, which brings freedom and service, be felt in so many hearts afflicted by war, persecution
and slavery. May this divine power, by its meekness, take away the hardness of heart of so many
men and women immersed in worldliness and indifference, the globalization of indifference.
May his redeeming strength transform arms into ploughshares, destruction into creativity, hatred
into love and tenderness. Then we will be able to cry out with joy: 'Our eyes have seen your
salvation...,'" Pope Francis, "Urbi et Orbi," Dec. 24, 2014.

CCUSA and CRS have started "You Did It For Me." Catholic parishes can receive a 100 word
story with graphics for its bulletin, Website, or newsletter detailing the good work of one of the
two organizations every week. For more information about these weekly "good news" stories,
contact Steve Herro.

CCUSA Social Policy
The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace announced in August that the theme for the
upcoming World Day of Peace (Jan. 1, 2015) will be "Slaves No More, but Brothers and
Sisters," with the Popes message focusing on human trafficking, modern-day slavery. Find the
message here; there are resources from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and a
video of international faith leaders signing a pact against human trafficking. To take advantage
of that focal moment on the issue of trafficking, the Coalition of Catholic Organizations Against
Human Trafficking (CCOAHT), convened by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
and of which CCUSA is a member, crafted a set of New Years Resolutions Against Human
Trafficking, a list of actions related to trafficking for the public to commit to as 2015 New
Years resolutions. Watch CCUSA trafficking page for updates on how you can get involved to
reduce human trafficking and to learn what our network is doing to fight this scourge. For more
information about CCUSA's outreach against human trafficking, please contact Julie Zorb,
Manager Policy and Research, Catholic Charities USA.
