Describe the process known as reuptake following the termination of the postsynaptic potential.

DQ # 2
Brain cells or neurons are dependent on neurotransmitters for their working system and
action potential. Presynaptic neurons release the neurotransmitters as an action potential or
message to postsynaptic neurons. After neurotransmitter molecules are released from the
presynaptic neuron, they shoot to another end of the postsynaptic cleft and communicate with the
receptors of the postsynaptic cell. The post synaptic neuron has a binding site which opens a way
for the neurotransmitter (Chudler, 2010). This is called synaptic transmission, and simply can be
understood as communication between two brain cells/neurons. The brain cells which send
signals or transmitters are called presynaptic neurons and those brain cells that grasp those
transmitters are called postsynaptic neurons.
The reuptake process is to terminate all the postsynaptic potentials which are created by
neurotransmitters. When neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin are
sent from one neuron to other neurons, they create postsynaptic potentials which are terminated
by reuptake. Reuptake is the process in which neurotransmitters which are in the way (synaptic
clefts) are removed by a special transport system which takes all the neurotransmitters to the
cytoplasm (Macalester, 2014).
