The title of the magazine I wish to produce is Mosh Pit, I chose it as is a feature of a

conventional rock music concert and as I want to create a rock music magazine, and this
feature contextualises the magazine with me. It also was the most popular choice in a
survey of 20 16-25 year olds who listen to rock music. I have chosen to focus on the genre of
Rock as I myself fit into the target audience of the typical teenage rock fan, and so do most
of my peers, so target research is very easy for me. The target audience for my magazine
will be white females all aged between 16-25 years old. They will be middle classed, with
either enough money to buy the magazine regularly for themselves or with parents that
have enough excess income to buy the magazines for them. My initial ideas for the front
page are quite a traditional magazine lay out with the masthead at the top, the main image
will feature the artist that corresponds with the main article and cover line of the magazine.
The image will follow the rule of thirds and all of its most important sections will align with
the hotspots that would be created if the image were to be separated into 9 equal
sections, creating a 3x3 grid. It will however, break convention as stereotypically a rock
music magazine will feature a male artist on the front. I am going to feature a female artist.
This will show that my magazine is edgy and open to experiment with new idea that the
non-conformist rock fan base will find very appealing. It will also provide the female
audience with a role model to look up to. My contents page again will follow convention of
a typical music magazine. The main image will again focus on the most important article in
the magazine, but also have other images that preview the other articles in the magazine.
These articles will be listed down one side with the number of the page they are on also. An
editorial letter may also feature on this page. For the double page spread, which will
obviously be the main article of the magazine that corresponds with the main image of the
front cover, my initial idea is that it will be an interview with the artist in question. It will
have a large image that takes up the page on the right whilst the page on the left has all the
text of the article, including the heading and all other features the article would feature. For
photographs, the artist will be wearing nonconformist clothes that would be considered
quite rebellious compared to what is normal by todays standards. Mis-en-scene will be
important to portray genre, I will use it in the artists hair which will be dyed a bright colour,
she will have facial piercings, and she will also have tattoos.
