Pointe du Hoc in the face of enemy fire, eventually destroying enemy artillery atop the escarpment. The rangers held

US armed forces adopted the famed Thompson submachine


gun, putting it to widespread use. Most military versions

On May 20, 1941, Germany dropped its entire 7th Air
Division, along with other units, to take the island of Crete.
The operation was successful, but the casualty rate convinced
German command that using paratroopers was too risky.

The Wehrmacht concocted a plan to use guerilla fighters


to harass any Allied forces occupying regions of Germany.
Werwolf, the name for the plan, was meant to reference fierce
lycanthropes and to be a pun on Wehrwolf (military wolf).

Like most armies in the early days of World War II, the
Hungarians used a light antitank weapon, modeling theirs
on Czech 37mm guns and the German PAK 36.

The weight and size of ammo was a considerable part of a


soldiers burden. Deploying ammunition forward allowed a
greater volume of fire and eased the constraints of operation.

Armored vehicles used fuel at a prodigious rate. A typical
