PROGRAM RATIONALE (please review the Program Guidelines for directions):


I am interested in helping bring higher education into the 21 st century and I believe combining a
primary specialization in higher education with a secondary specialization in instructional
technology will help me do that. In addition to the core requirements for my primary
specialization, I am interested in a wide range of electives that will help me gain a good overall
picture of the higher education landscape. I believe a Law or Financial Management course,
along with a course focused on current issues in higher education will complement the history,
ethics and assessment courses required. CTCH 603, focused on higher ed in the digital age, is
directly in line with my goals. Additionally, I hope to take a special topic or directed reading
course that will align with my research interest as that becomes more defined.
For my secondary specialization, I plan to use some of the coursework I have already completed
towards a graduate certificate in eLearning, EDIT 611 and 705. I will compliment this with
additional coursework related to instructional technology and leadership in educational
technology. Combining my knowledge of higher education and educational technology will help
me integrate such technology into my own classrooms and into the larger university.
