ENERGY AUDIT REPORT

OF
E BUILDING

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We have carried out the field work for DETAILED ENERGY AUDIT, during the month of
July14. We carried out very; very elaborate measurements for the various areas of the
Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, E-building. We analyzed very critical the
effectiveness of ENERGY Consumption, in each area.

Fig. Pie Diagram for Energy Consumption by different utilities

5.0 Energy Analysis
Total energy consumption per day

= 945.179 Kw-hr

Total energy consumption by tube lights per day

= 49.12 Kw-hr

Total energy consumption by fans per day

= 86.88 kW-hr

On replacing electronic tube lights with CFL we assume 15% energy is saved and by installing
capacitor in fan ,
Total energy consumption by fan

= 57.92 kW-hr

Total energy consumption by CFL per day

= 41.752 Kw-hr

Energy saved per day

= 36.328 kW-hr

As per MSEB light tariff if we consider charge per kW-hr to be Rs. 7.65
Then savings in electricity bill would be

= Rs 277.91 per day

= Rs 8337.276 per month

Assuming installation charges for CFLs

= Rs 170 x 280 CFLs

= Rs 47600

Assuming installation charges for capacitor

= Rs 20 x 181 capacitors
= Rs 3620

Total installation cost

= Rs 51220

Simple payback period would be

= 51220/ 8337.276
= 6.14 months

6.0 Recommendations
1.
2.
3.
4.

Total load on building is about 946 Kw-hr per day.

Maximum load is related to lighting. High load energy consumption units are few in
number.
For lighting tube light fittings are of electronic type (20W) if we replace them with energy
efficient CFL energy consumption reduces by about 15%.
Investment required to replace tube lights with CFLs = Rs 51220.
This amount would be recovered in period of 6 months, which implies henceforth the
saving of Rs 8337.276 is our profit.
