SUBJECT: MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CROP WEATHER WATCH GROUP HELD
ON 28.11.2014.

Summary observations of the Group on Agenda Items

In the post-monsoon season, cumulative Rainfall for the country as a whole during the
period 1st October to 26th November, 2014 is (-) 32% lower than LPA. Rainfall (%
departure from LPA) in the four broad geographical divisions of the country during the
above period was lower by (-) 31% in North West India, (-) 31% in Central India, (-) 69%
in East & North East India and (-) 14% in South Peninsula.

Out of a total of 36 met sub-divisions, 11 met sub-divisions constituting 28% of the total
area of the country have received excess/normal rainfall and 25 met sub-divisions
constituting 72% of the total area of the country have received deficient/scanty rainfall.

Central Water Commission monitors 85 major reservoirs in the country which have a total
live capacity of 155.05 BCM at Full Reservoir Level (FRL). Current live storage in these
reservoirs as on 27th November, 2014 was 104.20 BCM as against 122.69 BCM on
27.11.2013 (last year) and 105.03 BCM of normal storage (average storage of the last 10
years). Current years storage is 85% of the last years and 99% of the normal storage.

As per latest information available on sowing of crops, around 57.8% of the normal area
under rabi crops have been sown upto 28.11.2014. Area sown under all rabi crops taken
together has been reported to be 360.94 lakh hectares at All India level as compared to
378.92 lakh hectares the corresponding period of last year.

The All Commodities inflation rate based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on a point
to point basis for the month of October, 2014, decreased to 1.77% from the level of
2.38% in the month of September, 2014. The inflation rate was 7.24% during the
corresponding period of last year.

The Primary Articles inflation rate based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on a point
to point basis for the month of October, 2014, decreased to 1.43% from the level of
2.18% in the month of September, 2014. The inflation rate was 14.59% during the
corresponding period of last year.

The inflation for non-food items has decreased to -1.41% from the previous months
level of 0.52% and for the food items has decreased to 2.70% from the previous
months level of 3.52%.

Among the foodgrains, Rice has decreased to 6.47% from the previous months level of
6.87%. The inflation for Pulses has decreased to 4.02% from the previous months level
of 6.69%, Cereals to 3.29% from the previous months level of 3.45% and Wheat to 1.92% from the previous months level of -1.50%.

All-India progressive procurement of Rice as on 28.11.2014 for the marketing season


2014-15 was 105.92 lakh tonnes against the procurement of 110.29 lakh tonnes upto
the corresponding period of last year.

2013-14 was 318.40 lakh tonnes against the procurement of 339.43 lakh tonnes upto
the corresponding period of last year.

Post Monsoon Rainfall (Oct.Dec.) during the week ending on 26th November), 2014

Sub-division-wise daily distribution of rainfall and minimum temperature are shown in


Table-1

Rainfall during the week (20th November, 2014 to 26th November, 2014) Rainfall
was deficient/scanty in 10 and no rain in 26 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions.

Cumulative rainfall (01st October to 26th November, 2014) Rainfall was


excess/normal in 11 and deficient/Scanty in 25 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions.

Pest & Diseases:

The incidence of pest & diseases generally remained below Economic Threshold Level
for most of the crops.

No shortage of Chemical / Bio-pesticides was reported from any State / UT.
