Dear Co-Laborer,
We
came. vVe are getting ready for a man to come and transfer the pump and the
engine frora the Government well to ours.
It will push the water up to the

and

of the mission
The hospital building is coming along nicely and two of the six major
units are now ready for roofing, with the foundations for two others com
plete. The clinic continues to operate and many contacts are being made,
oouls continue to coine to the Light because of the combination of ' Viford
and deed." Dr. Jerry Smith adds much to the program as he journeys from
Salisbury tvdce a month to visit the clinic and give testimony to Christ.
He is doing a tremendous task for the work here and his fine Christian
character enhanses the atmosphere of this area.
area where over twenty have confessed Christ as thier Lord during the past
month.
We anxiously await the arrival of the Dale Marshall and Charles Kelley
families, expected to arrive in a few months. They are seeking support at
the present time. Opportunities lie waiting for their testimony to Christ,
As the time for their arrival draws nearer,
leave for furlough draws nearer too. An empty place in our hearts will re
main as they go to the U.S. to rehearse all things that God has done with
them.
250 new children have entered our Christian Day Schools this year and
what a thrill it is to know that each day they are taught of Jesus Christ.

Two schools are now under construction and soon the classes can move in from
All of this is very costly in some respects, but compared with that being done
in teaching and preaching, we find this a very productive field for Christ.
Your concern through prayers and gifts are appreciated and needed so much.
The people here are doing a lot financially to help build their schools so
this is not a big burden, but we depend on God to supply through you, that
needed to accomplish His will. We need your prayers and generous support and
we will do our part to use it to the glory of God. Again we say, thank you,
and praise the Lord for this opportunity of working together with you in
spreading the precious Seed of Life among the African people.
Yours for His will,

Greetings in the name of our Precious Lord. How wonderful it has been
this past week end to emphasize the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
Brother Bruce /unmerman arranged a wonderful week end of services which began
on Friday evening and finished Sunday afternoon. We witnessed thirty-one
souls being buried and raised in like manner as Christ, in Christian baptism.
Bill and Jackie Brant from Zambia stopped in for the week end, and the Jerry
Smith family had arranged for his bi-weekly visit to the clinic to be at the
same time. Dr. Jerry brought a thrilling message on Sunday morning in which
he pictured Christ in a wonderful way.
Bruce had arranged for all the churches from around Slnoia, Chidamoyo
and Vuti to have a few como to represent them, and to take back what they
had learned. Truly, it was a good time of fellowship, and the sessions were
planned well for the mutual benefit of all.
LOST IN SHIPMENT
Somev/hBre along the way, two of our drums were opened and many slides,
clothes, a sabro -saw-,camera equipment and papers in a brief case were- taken
This made a total loss of about 300 dollars, but also a loss of several im
portant papers. Those wo can never replace. The reason for mentioning this
is that among the papers were a list of items, names and addresses and re
quests by several people. I can remember one young boy who v/anted a piece
of wood from Pdiodesia; a man who wanted an old license plate; and a little
girl who v;antod some models of animals like wo had on our display, V/ould
those of you who had made requests such as these please write to us and re
quest those things again, and give us your names and addresses?
ARRIVALS
ANTICIPATED
The arrival of the Charles Kolley and the Dale Marshall families is
greatly anticipated. They are needed so badly in the expanding work here,
and the anxious moments of approval from the hesitant Rhodosian Government,
has made us quite concerned. Brothers Lawyer, Jerry Smith, John Pemberton
and I had several appointments v/ith immigration officials.
Letters of
appeal to them; begging for extra gasoline to go; and tn.king time out from
our busy schedules, were all a part of it. Our hopes at the present time
DEPARTURE
DREADED
The Bruce Aimnerman family will depart soon to rehearse what God has done
through them among the African people. They shall surely be missed by all of
us. They are to arrive in the States the last of June, the Lord willing.

Greetings in the name of Jesus, our Redeemer. Great cause for rejoicing seems to
find its way into every day. God has given rejoicing through Jesus, our Lord, as we are
privileged to be called His children, and amid the toils and heartaches of witnessing here,
we thank Him for victories won and for you who make them possible.
MEETING IN BULAWAYO
During the past two months I have made 3 special trips into Salisbury, Rhodesia's
capital, for talks with the Immigration D^ay-tmenL.' John-I^emberton came up from Hippo Val

HOSPITAL
As I write to you, I'm enjoying the quietness of the African bush country, along
with the rhythmic shovels full of river sand falling into the Ford truck. Our new five-ton
truck has been broken down for a week and the supplies for the hospital, which is going up
As a result I'm driving the Ford (which I have never turned over
to our African driver) and getting a chance to send a few thoughts aloiig to you.
LORRY
Just today a mechanic came from Salisbury, 200 miles away, to fix the lorry. He
will return to Salisbury today and then come back in 2 days with the repaired differential,
and all will be back to normal again.

of gravel road we came to the Salisbury road with 131 miles left to go. We
needed to go to the bank, and also to see the gas rationing officer to insure
enough for a return trip, but time did not allow. All was going well until
about 45 miles from Salisbury when the fan belt broke. Fortunately we were
near the only gas station for 30 miles in either direction and after waking
up the attendant and getting a new belt we were on the way.
Salisbury At Last
Upon arrival at the Hospital Helen was given shots to stop labor
since it vi^as supposed to be another month. This only "delayed the agony"
Helen said, as at 3 o'clock, Lynda Gayle came weighing 5 pound 6 ounces.

How Do You Say I t
Its hard for me to know hov; to say it, for we have never appealed for funds
in our monthly letter to each of you, except for a furlough. Nov/ v;e find
ourselves in a situation which is thrilling and yet hard for us.
It is
thrilling to see now workers come to join in the work, and it is thrilling
to see the hospital funds coming along reasonably v/ell, toward whjlch so many
have worked.
Funds for the hospital are still needed, as the construction
goes up rapidly and will soon bo completed
in a few months.
But some have
felt that with the hospital being one of our projects, and with the Marshall
and Kelloy families both coming to join the work, that we do not need as many
funds
as
before.
Our evangelism through tho Christian Day Schools, and tho evangelistic pro

Others have joined, but the work is so vast that they are doing what v/o could

Dear Christian.Friends,
Sunmier has arrived in full force. The sun peeps over Kenyongo Moun
tain well before six o'clock, and the birds are already chirping happily.
Though
mornings are delightful, we know the day will soon be uncom
fortably hot. Our maximum "-"Minimum thermometer which c^ght the afternoon
sun on the north side of the house, went as far as it could beyond the 120
degree mark ( about 126 degree) each afternoon. One afternoon we decided to
move it in the shade where it registered 104 degrees.

He helped with the more difficult work of making

Dr. Louise Westwater, th Provincial Medical Officer for this area, had

for Tommy.
Ho fell off his tricycle into the rose bushes and scratched his
leg in quite a few places. That evening he come running into the house and
hit the corner of the table cutting a half inch gash in his cheek just below
his left eye. He probably should have had a stitch or two but Daddy buttorflied it with tape.
Lynda is four months now and weighs fifteen pounds and a half.
She is
a real little fatty.
She smiles and coos at us and we all enjoy her so much.
Helen keeps busy with her duties as a wife, Mother, and school teacher.
She has been doing some much needed sewing for the family as well.
Ziden has been spending most of his time on the roof of the hospital
lately, trying to get it under roof before the rains begin.
He has been in
specting the schools again. A few weeks ago ho performed a Christian V/edding
Ceremony for one of our teachers.
