Inmythology,OphiucusisidentifiedwiththehealerAsclepius,
thesonofApollo,whowasabletobringthedeadbacktolife.
Realizinghispower,HadesconvincedZeustokillAsclepiuswith
alightningbolt,andhewasplacedintothestarsasa
constellationafterhisdeath.
Theconstellation,Ophiuchus,hasbeenknownsinceancient
times,andisbetterknownasSerpentarius,theSerpentHolder.
Itisincludedinthelistof48constellationsdescribedby
Ptolemy.Ophiuchusisdepictedasamanhandlingaserpent
hisbodydividingthelargesnakeintotwoparts,givingwayto
thesymbolusedtodayasanAsclepiusthemedicalstaff.
AstrologershavenotincludedOphiuchusinthewheelof

AstrologicalsignsbecausetheSunspendsonlyaboutnineteen
daysinthis13thsignoftheMazzaroth.Notthattherewasnta
13thsignintheHeavens,butasfarasAstrologerswere
concerned,theSuntraveledfromtheconstellationScorpius
andthenproceededdirectlyintothesignofSagittarius.In
reality,thiswasnotthecase.TheSun,for19daysoftheyear,
travelsthroughthestarconstellationOphiuchusbeforeentering
SagittariusfromScorpiusseechartbelow.thusThesignof
OphiuchusispatternedaftertheoriginalSerpentHolder,Enki,
aSumeriangod.

ThesignsoftheZodiacareforthemostpart,thehighway,or
pathonwhichtheSuntakesitsyearlyjourneyacrossthe
heavensasitwouldappeartoEarthlings.Thesesignsare

actuallystarconstellationsoccupyingspaceinwhichtheSun
appearstotravelsinanearthyear.Theoriginaltwelve
signs/constellations:Aries,Taurus,Gemini,Cancer,Leo,Virgo,
