Job Title: Head of Year 7 and Transition
Salary / Grade: + TLR: 2.2 = 4596
Hours: FTE 1.0

Job purpose
This role is a fixed Year 7 Head of Year post, consequently we are seeking someone
with proven experience at Key Stage 2 (specifically Years 5 and/or 6) who will: bring expertise on the primary curriculum and student progress at Key Stage 2
in order to ensure a smooth transition academically for students joining
Christs in Year 7
liaise with our feeder primary schools building good working relationships year
on year
teach English and Maths to those students who failed to achieve a secure L4
in their Key Stage 2 assessments
bring expertise on the personal and social development of students at Key
Stage 2 to ensure a smooth transition pastorally for students joining Christs in
Year 7.

Further particulars specific to this role


Accountable for: The line management of 5 Form Tutors and specified aspects of
the progress of pupils in the year group
Line manage: The work of the Pastoral Support Co-ordinator as it relates to the year
group
Key Accountabilities
1. To ensure the smooth transition of all pupils from Year 6 to Year 7
liaise with primary colleagues and other relevant staff
lead on all aspects of the Year 7 induction process, including the
induction days and parents induction evening
play a key role in organising and leading the summer school; identifying
students with low prior attainment and devising intervention work
2. To monitor and analyse the required academic, pastoral and attendance
data, acting on significant trends or changes
monitor pupil progress against target data (academic, behaviour,
attendance, punctuality)
develop, implement and monitor intervention strategies in conjunction
with other colleagues, outside agencies and parents as appropriate
be mindful at all times of narrowing the gap specifically with regard to
gender, SEN, EAL, gifted and talented, FSM, ethnicity
provide a report on pupil progress to the Assistant Headteacher/Deputy
Headteacher on a half termly basis
identify improvement priorities creating a vision and development plan
on an annual basis in order to achieve whole school and year group
development
3. To create and develop a year identity and ethos, in keeping with Christs
Christian ethos
build and promote positive relationships between all members of the
year team/group
take responsibility for leading year assemblies
support the year representatives in their role on the whole school council
by overseeing the Year Council
foster positive relationships with parents

ensure all children in the group are able to enjoy and be proud of their
school and their achievements

4. To provide leadership for the Form Tutors


monitor the performance of Form Tutors and provide appropriate
support and guidance
ensure the Form Tutors uphold Christs policies relating to behaviour,
uniform, attendance and punctuality
contribute to the performance management of the Form Tutors in line
with whole school procedures
plan and lead year team meetings
oversee the delivery of the pastoral curriculum
5. To work with the Pastoral Support Co-ordinator to oversee the day to day
running of the year group
provide pastoral support, advice and guidance to pupils in need
promote and utilise restorative approaches when dealing with situations
that arise
monitor the conduct and progress of pupils using the Head of Year
report as appropriate
monitor pupils daily attendance and punctuality, working closely with
the Attendance Officer and Educational Welfare Officer to ensure
attendance remains high and persistence absence is reduced
support the C3/C4 detention process ensuring pupils attend and follow
up on those who do not
maintain records and logs when dealing with specific incidents
support and implement the agreed programme of induction for pupils
who join midway through the academic year
lead on specific events pertaining to the year group, liaising with
administrative staff as appropriate, for example parents evening
manage, effectively, the pastoral budget
meet regularly (usually weekly) with your line manager to discuss issues
relating to the year group
