ACTIVITY 1 Warm up
Aim: To raise students awareness of the foreign words in the
English language

Interaction

Timing

To get the students involved into the topic

Procedure:
1. Informal conversation, greetings
2. Check if there are students who are absent
3. The teacher should ask the students if they know any names
of shapes. They will be requested to give examples from
their personal experience (from their house, school,
schoolroom, park, etc.) The teacher will provide
himself/herself examples for each shape which is going to be
taught (plates, piece of bread, notebook, slice of pizza, stars
from the Christmas decoration etc.)
ACTIVITY 2 Speaking+ Learning

Aim: To practice scanning

To understand from the context the meaning of some new
words
To learn about Shapes
Procedure:

T Ss

1. The teacher will announce the first part of the lesson which is
going to be taught. (Today, we are going to learn the basic
shapes. These are circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and
star. The shapes are important because they can be found on
every moment of our days, even though we are not aware of
them. So, it is very important for us to know and recognize
them.)
2. The teacher will paste on the blackboard the blue square
made of colored paper, and he/she will ask the students to
provide examples of square objects of their everyday
activity. (The first shape which we are going to learn is the
square. Squares have four sides, of the same size. The
classroom is square, so as the gym room, and as the flower

corner in front of the school. Can you tell me any other

square objects?)
The teacher will paste on the blackboard the yellow circle,
and he/she will ask the students to provide examples of round
objects. (Another shape is the circle. Circles are round. Can
anyone think of a round object? What about our clock? Is not
it round just as the plates from which we eat? The sun is also
round. Even the moon is round, like a peach.)
The teacher will add on the blackboard the green rectangle,
and he/she will ask the students to give examples of rectangle
objects. (Rectangles are similar to the squares, but the
difference between these shapes is that rectangles do not
have the sides of the same size. The yard behind our school is
a rectangle. Can anyone give me another example of
rectangle object?)
The teacher will add on the blackboard the purple triangle,
and he/she will ask the students to provide examples of
triangle objects. (The next shape is triangle. Triangles have
three sides. A slice of pizza or a piece of pie is triangle
shaped. Do you know any other examples?)
The teacher will paste on the blackboard the red star, and
he/she will request his/her students to give examples of star
objects. (The last shape which we are going to learn is the
star. A cookie can have the star shape. Did you know that
there is even a fruit star shaped? Does anyone know any
other star shaped object?)

ACTIVITY 3 Debate

Interaction

Timing

Aim: To involve the students into a game which involves

imprinting the shapes through the foam shaped blocks
To organize the students into five teams to bring positive
feedback from teaching the SHAPES
Procedure:

T Ss

1. The blackboard will be cleared from the colored shapes and

it will be added five white sheets of papers. The students will
be organized into five teams. Each team will have one white
sheet of paper added on the blackboard. The teams will be
provided with shaped foam blocks, paint, trays with clean
water, and paper towels. The task will be: each team will be
assigned a shape, and the members of each team will have to
imprint that particular shape onto the white sheet of paper.

The colors will be selected by the students. The shapes will

be assigned by the teacher. The first team will draw circles,
the second will draw stars, the third will draw squares, the
fourth will draw triangles, and the fifth will draw rectangles.
ACTIVITY 4 Speaking+ Learning
Aim:
To make association between the colors from the pegs and
the colors from the pinwheel

Interaction

Timing

To learn new words, meaning the COLORS, through game

Procedure:
1. The teacher will stop the students from painting and will
invite them to sit down at their places.
2. The teacher will bring a colored pinwheel in front of the
class, and many pegs. He/she will announce what they will
do over the second part of the class. (After finding out
together what the shapes are and having a bit of fun, I
believe that we should find out what are the names of the
colors. So I brought you a funny game. This is a pinwheel,
and as you can see, it has many colors on it. Over here, we
have some pegs, colored with the same colors like the
pinwheel and on the pegs are written the name of each color.
The task is simple. I am going to spin the pinwheel and when
you say stop I am going to put my hand on it and stop it. I am
going to name a student to help me find the matching peg
and place it on the pinwheel and we are going read together
the name of the color. We are going to do this until there will
be no peg left on the desk.)
3. The teacher will finish this game helped by each student.
