1.0 INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available with source code: the source
code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are provided under an open
source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the
software.

MEANING HARDWARE
Computer hardware is the collection of physical elements that constitutes a computer system.
Computer hardware refers to the physical parts or components of a computer such as the
monitor, mouse, keyboard, computer data storage, hard drive disk (HDD), system unit (graphic
cards, sound cards, memory, motherboard and chips), etc. all of which are physical objects that
can be touched. In contrast, software is instructions that can be stored and run by hardware.

MEANING OF SOFTWARE
Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that
provides the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. Software refers to
one or more computer programs and data held in in the storage of the computer.

2.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM

2.1 MEANING OF OPERATING SYSTEM
An open source (OS) operating system is a set of programs that schedule tasks, allocates storage
and presents a default interface to the user between applications. But this OS is free, user have
the right to use, modify and redistribute the software for better interoperability.

2.2 EXAMPLES OF OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM

2.2.1 KUBUNTU 14.10

Kubuntu is an official derivative of the Ubuntu operating system which uses the KDE Plasma
Desktop instead of the Unity graphical environment. As part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntu uses
the same underlying systems, every package in Kubuntu shares the same repositories as Ubuntu,
and it is released regularly on the same schedule as Ubuntu. Kubuntu is aoperating system open
source. It is possible to install both the KDE Plasma Desktop (kubuntu-desktop) and the Unity
desktop (ubuntu-desktop) on the same machine. The latest release date in October 23,2014.

2.2.2 PUPPY LINUX 6.0

Puppy Linux operating system is a lightweight Linux distribution that focuses on ease of use and
minimal memory footprint. The entire system can be run from RAM with current versions
generally taking up about 210 MB. Applications such as ABIWORD (word documents),
GNUMERIC (spreadsheets) and MPLAYER (multimedia player) are included, along with a
choice of lightweight web browsers. Puppy Linux is an operating system open source. The tool
Woof can build a Puppy Linux distribution from the binary packages of other Linux
distributions. The latest release date inOctober 26,2014.

3.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.1 MEANING OF OPENSOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE
Application software is all the computer software that causes a computer to perform useful
tasks (compare with computer viruses) beyond the running of the computer itself. A specific
instance of such software is called a software application, program or application. An open
source application software is something for which the source code is available for download
and anybody can modify it and release subsequent versions of the same provided they mention
the version of the source using which they modified.

3.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.2.1 NEOOFFICE 2014

NeoOffice is an office suite for the OS X operating system. It is a fork of the free or open source
OpenOffice.org that implements nearly all of the features of the corresponding OpenOffice.org
version for Mac OS X, including a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, and
graphics program. It is ported by Planamesa Inc., and uses Cocoa technology to integrate
OpenOffice.org originally developed for Linux, Microsoft Windows and Solaris with the Aqua
interface of Mac OS X. The date release in October 15, 2014.

GOM Player 2.2.64.5211

GOM Media Player is freeware video playback software developed by the South Korean
company, Gretech Corp. Last released for this software is on October 22, 2014. Designed with
both power and simplicity in mind, GOM Media Player is an ideal video player for both
beginners and experts alike. Features are GOM Player supports most of the codecs (AVI, DAT,
MPEG, DivX and plus more) by its own embedded codec system that you wont have to look for
appropriate codecs every time when you cant play a certain video format and OM also support
its own skins, Subtitle, Overlay Mixer Features, Optimized buffer for streaming automatic ASF
source filter, Keys Remapping, Super speed/High Mode, Enhanced Filter Rendering and fullUnicode.

5.1 MEANING OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING

Pervasive computing (also called Ubiquitous computing) is a post desktop model of human
computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly integrated into
everyday objects and activities. In the course of ordinary activities, someone using ubiquitous
computing engages many computational devices and system simultaneously, and may not
necessarily even be aware that they are doing so.

5.2 EXAMPLE PERVASIVE COMPUTING

5.2.1 SMART PEN

A Smart Pen is a device that allows all the usual abilities of a basic ballpoint pen, but also has
some more technologically innovative features as well. These features include a microphone,
speaker and a small organic light emitting diode (OLED) screen. A smartpen will also typically
have a tiny infrared camera built into the tip of the handle, near the actual pen, that tracks the
movements of the pen to record the words and images that a user makes. If used with specially
designed paper, this allows the user to record full notebooks of information that are saved onto
the pen and can be uploaded onto a computer through a universal serial bus (USB) port
connection.

5.2.2 SMART BOARD

The Smart Board interactive whiteboard operates as part of a

system that includes the interactive whiteboard, a computer, a
projector and whiteboard software - either Smart Notebook
collaborative learning software for education, or Smart Meeting
Pro software for business. The components are connected
wirelessly or via USB or serial cables. A projector connected to
the computer displays the desktop image on the interactive
whiteboard. The whiteboard accepts touch input from a finger, pen or other solid object. Smart
Board interactive whiteboards are also available as a front-projection flat-panel display
interactive surfaces that fit over plasma or LCD display panels.

6.0 CONCLUSION
Open Source can be used by anyone an because it has no copyright claims, so users are free to
use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified forms.
Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier because we can interact with computers.
Besides that, we can easily give the computer commands and the computer will grant your wish.
