Class of 2016
CAS Proposal
I have a range of different activities planned in order to make the most of my CAS
experience. My first CAS project will be my choirs performance at Night of Stars,
Smoky Hills talent show. My choir, Advanced Womens Choir, will perform one song at
the talent show. We will also have to learn some sign language because it will be a part of
our entire performance. I believe that this performance will count as creative hours for
CAS. Our performance will be on October 2nd and 3rd. I think this CAS opportunity
allows me to achieve the learning outcomes: Work and collaborate with others and
Increase awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth. In choir during
rehearsals, the entire class has to work together to make sure that our performance is
successful.
I also plan to learn ASL, also known as American Sign Language as a part of my
creative hours. I think that learning sign language will be a fun experience for me. It will
also allow me to challenge myself and I will be developing a new skill. Im not sure how
much of the language I can learn or how successful I will be, but I plan on working on it
till I succeed. My plan for achieving this goal is to watch a series of YouTube videos
teaching me how to sign.
To get hours for action, I plan on volunteering for both and fall and spring craft
fairs that are held at Smoky Hill. I also plan on joining some sort of sports team the
summer between my junior and senior year. I believe this will help me achieve the

learning outcome: considered the ethical implications of their actions because ethical
decisions can arise in almost any CAS activity. I will be helping set up the booths before
the fair starts and I will help with take down at the end of the day. At craft fair I will be
working collaboratively with others. I also plan on performing at Cabaret Night at Smoky
Hill. This will count as creative hours for CAS. At Cabaret I will be performing a solo I
will choose and rehearse for. We do have to audition for Cabaret.
My Big Project for CAS is going to be a World Awareness presentation that will
be dedicated to educating both myself, and people that come to see the presentation about
some kind of charity. Im not sure what charity me and my partner will be focused on yet.
There will be some kind of a fund raiser, probably a bake sale, to help us raise money for
the charity we choose. The six outcomes we decided we would focus on are: undertaken
new challenges, worked collaboratively with others, shown perseverance and
commitment in their activities, engaged with issues of global importance, increased their
awareness of their own strengths and areas of growth, and developed new skills. This
project will take up a lot of time. We plan to have it done and ready before world
awareness.
To get service hours, I will be volunteering at Christian Living Communities.
Christian Living Communities is a local not-for-profit senior living organization. I also
plan on volunteering at Goodwill. I want to volunteer for Archway Housing & Services,
Inc. as Girls Programming Facilitator. This will count for both service and creative
because volunteers will be helping to design activities. It will also allow me to achieve
the learning outcome of planning and initiating activities because volunteers also
facilitate discussions and lead the girls in the activities.
