Typical work activities usually include:

installing, supporting and maintaining new server hardware and software infrastr
ucture;
managing email, anti-spam and virus protection;
setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords;
monitoring network usage;
ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient use of servers;
suggesting and providing IT solutions to business and management problems;
ensuring that all IT equipment complies with industry standards;
analysing and resolving faults, ranging from a major system crash to a forgotten
password;
undertaking routine preventative measures and implementing, maintaining and moni
toring network security, particularly if the network connects to the internet;
providing training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT kno
wledge and competence;
supervising other staff, such as help-desk technicians;
working closely with other departments/organisations and collaborating with othe
r IT staff;
planning and implementing future IT developments and undertaking project work;
managing the website and keeping internal networks running;
monitoring the use of the web by employees.

IT Systems Analyst:
Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide
area network (WAN),
and Internet system or a segment of a network system. Maintain network hardware
and software.
Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform n
ecessary maintenance to support network availability.
May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coor
dinate, and implement network security measures.

Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, p

Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, in
cluding computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all conf

Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair re
cords.
Monitor network performance in order to determine whether adjustments need to be
made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
Operate master consoles in order to monitor the performance of computer systems
and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control re
cords.
Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures in order to protect da
ta, software, and hardware.
Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine h
ardware or software requirements related to such changes.
Research new technology, and implement it or recommend its implementation.
Train people in computer system use.
