4. SURFACE PREPARATION
4.1 Removal of Reinforcement
When the Contract documents require the removal of weld reinforcements,
the welds shall be prepared for RT by grinding, Other weld surfaces net not
be ground or otherwise smoothed for purpose of RT unless surface
irregularities or the junction between weld and base metal may cause
objectionable weld discontinuities to be obscured in the radiograph.
4.2 Reiforcement
When weld reinforcement or becking, or bath, is not removed or wire IQI
alternate placement is not used, steel shims which extend at least 1/8 in (3
mm) beyond threes slides of the required hole type IQI shall be placed under
the hole type IQI or wire IQI, so that the total thickness of steel between the
hole type and the film is appoximately aqual to the average thickness of teh
weld measured though its reinforcemets and backing.
5. EQUIPMENT / ACCESSORIES / CONSUMABLES
Radiographs shall be made using a singlet source of elther X or Gamma
radiation.
5.1 Sources
5.1.1 X-ray with maksimum of 600 kVp or iridium 192 may be used as a
source for all RT provided they have adequate penetrating ability.
