Description

Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a non-denominational, not-for-profit, international


development agency that promotes sustainable and equitable development in Asia and Africa. AKFC is
part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of international agencies with specific
mandates in health, education, rural livelihoods, private sector development and culture.
Working in select countries in which it can harness significant indigenous experience, AKFC and its
partners seek to address the interconnected causes of poverty through a long-term, multi- input
approach that empowers individuals and communities. In Canada, AKFC undertake research and
learning initiatives, links Canadian individual and institutional expertise with that of counterparts in
developing countries, and offers programs that aim to improve the quality of development policy and
practice and strengthen public understanding of critical global issues.
Position Description
The Marketing Specialist supports the promotion of Aga Khan Foundation Canadas fundraising
programs. The incumbent will coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of
marketing campaigns and material for multiple AKFC initiatives, including the World Partnership
Walk and World Partnership Golf fundraising campaigns.
The Marketing Specialist will also play an important role in implementing marketing and
communication initiatives, and will be part of a team of staff and volunteers that organizes and
executes engaging events across the country. She/he will maintain relationships with marketing
volunteers located throughout the country and manage the work of external consultants to ensure the
delivery of quality work aligned to the standards of AKFC.
The key objective of the Marketing Specialist is to develop and execute actionable marketing tactics and
communication materials for AKFCs fundraising events that:
Drives the retention of fundraisers and donors from year to year and provides them with high
quality and engaging tools to maintain relationships with and solicit funds from donors
Engage corporate supporters including sponsors, employee fundraising program leads and
corporate donors
Attract new participants through on-line and off-line marketing vehicles with clear calls to
action
Develop event and campaign themes that generate excitement as fun and inspiring way for
families, young professionals and corporate leaders to make an impact in the world by
alleviating global poverty

Key Responsibilities include:


Marketing Campaigns
Define marketing tactics, tools and implementation plans that support fundraising
objectives including events, videos, publications and campaigns.
Support tactics for sustained year round engagement (offline and digital) of various
constituents (volunteers, donors, sponsors, team captains, and fundraisers), ensuring
coherence and consistent messaging as well as calls to action
Support the creation of new fundraising initiatives through the development of
communication materials
Support development of a robust online marketing strategy for fundraising including
website design, e-communications and social media
Conceive an incentive program to stimulate online fundraising activities
Graphic and Web Design
Define and execute graphic treatments which support fundraising activities working with
Public Affairs team and external suppliers as required
Provide graphic design/layout support for fundraising materials (ie: website graphics,
banners, invitations, tool kits, reports, posters, brochures etc.)
Organize and update the asset library (design files, photo and video resources ) and
internal resources (fundraising boilerplates, one-pagers)
Content Creation
Leverage content from Public Affairs team to prepare creative and engaging written copy
for digital and offline communications including emails, brochures and letters for various
constituents
Oversees creation of written publications and reports issued by the fundraising team
Liaise with video production suppliers to create and edit content to support fundraising
efforts
Fundraising website maintenance, email communications and web analytics
a. Manage and update content on fundraising and event websites using Joomla CMS as a
tool
b. Manage email distribution to constituents, including fundraisers and public engagement
stakeholders using Convio and Blackbaud NetCommunity.
c. Prepare queries and run perform campaign analytics for web activity and email success
(Google, Convio etc.)
Production and Communication Coordination
a. Work with existing marketing suppliers to coordinate the proofing and production of
national marketing initiatives
b. Liaise with external printers on a regular basis to ensure deadlines are met and
material is printed to the highest quality
c. Coordinate the production and delivery of signage, collateral, video and programming
material with each Walk/Golf city and liaise with field staff and volunteers

Qualifications
and
Competencies

Application

Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations


Minimum four (4) years work experience in marketing and communications role
Excellent creative written communication and editing skills for print and online
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects while
remaining flexible to changing priorities
Understanding of multimedia design and experience building files for both print and
digital (HTML).
Previous experience in coordinating projects with designers, web developers and
translators.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills particularly as it relates to working with
volunteers
Bilingual language skills is preferred
Proficiency with website content management systems, such as Joomla and WordPress
and demonstrated experience in managing websites
Experience using Google Analytics to measure website traffic is desirable
Experience using contact management software, emailing systems and event
management platforms, specifically Blackbaud NetCommunity, Convio and Raisers Edge
would be an asset
Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset
