INFORMATION
To avoid numerous unnecessary removals of ignition coils, we ask you to take PARTICULAR note of the following
points:
Apply the preliminary fault finding procedure described in accordance with Technical Note 6505A.
Check whether it is necessary to reprogram the injection computer.

"The repair procedures given by the manufacturer in this document are based on the
technical specifications current when it was prepared.
The procedures may be modified as a result of changes introduced by the manufacturer
in the production of the various component units and accessories from which the vehicles
are constructed".

Check whether it is necessary to reprogram the
injection computer (see Reprogramming the
injection computer: Engine instability)
(Technical Note 4184A, 17B) and/or
(Technical Note 4211A, 17B).
Confirm any possible fault with the
ignition coil(s) (see Fault finding Test) (Technical
Note 6505A, 17B, Petrol injection).
Note
The K4J and K4M engines are optimised to
operate at increased engine speeds and may
naturally present slight engine instabilities at idling
speed when warm.

Run fault finding on the ignition coils using the
special tool Ele. 1808: "Ignition coil tester" (see
Fault finding Test) (Technical Note 6505A, 17B,
Petrol injection).
If the fault finding concludes that at least one of
the ignition coils is faulty:
DENSO / BERU / ELDOR ignition coils:
Only replace the faulty coil(s).
Or
SAGEM / JCAE / VALEO ignition coils:
Replace the faulty coil and all of the ignition
coils with a manufacturing date code which is
strictly below 330 3.

After any ignition coil is removed without being
replaced, always apply fluorinated grease, part
no.: 82 00 168 855 (see Plug: Advice)
(Technical Note 3789A, 17A, Ignition).
