3SONG: I BELIEVE IN A HILL CALLED MOUNT
4
CALVARY
5
6CHOIR:
7There are things, as we travel this earths shifting sands,
8That transcend all the reason of man
9But the things that matter the most in this world,
10They can never be held in our hand.
11
12I believe in a hill called Mount Calvary.
13I believe, whatever the cost.
14And when time has surrendered,
15And earth stands no more,
16Ill still cling to that old rugged cross.
17
18I believe
19
(I believe)
20I believe
21
(I believe)
22I will cling to that old rugged cross.
23
24SOLO AND CHOIR
25I believe that the Christ who was slain on that cross
26
(I believe --- on that Cross)
27Has the power to change lives today
28
(Lives today)
29For He changed me completely
30
(Ah---)
31A new life is mine
32
(life is mine)
33That is why by the cross I will stay.
34
35CHOIR:
36I believe in a hill called Mount Calvary.
37I believe, whatever the cost
38I believe
39And when time has surrendered
40And earth stands no more
81
82I cant imagine how confused His disciples
83and followers must have been in those
84terrible days of His trial, crucifixion
85and death. What was it like for Peter, or
86John, or James to know that Jesus their
87friend and teacher had died such a
88horrible death, and that all they had left
89were the memories?
90
91I think in they probably relived in their
92minds every last moment they spent with
93Him, trying desperately to find meaning in
94what had happened.
95
96The last intimate gathering of Jesus and
97His disciples took place in Jerusalem,
98where they had gathered to celebrate
99Passover one of the most sacred of all
100Jewish holidays. The event was a somber
101one the Feast of the Passover
102commemorates the time when God freed the
103Israelites from bondage in Egypt. In the
104last of a series of plagues God rained on
105the tyrannical Pharaoh who had enslaved
106the Israelites, God sent death across the
107face of Egypt to kill the first-born of
108every household and every living thing.
109The Israelites were spared only if they
110smeared the blood of a spotless lamb on
111the door posts of their homes. God
112promised that when Death passed through
113Egypt, He would see the blood of the lamb
114and pass over the houses of His people.
115
116It was then, and is now, one of the most
117powerful symbols of Gods mercy and grace.
118And Jesus and His disciples had gathered
119to share the Passover meal a meal Jesus
120knew would be His last with the twelve men

360
361For centuries, DaVincis painting of the
362Lords Supper has offered a glimpse of one
363of the most tragic moments of the Lords
364life. There in the upper room, among His
365closest friends, knowing that his arrest,
366trial, and brutal death would follow,
367Jesus has just told them that He will be
368betrayed by one of them one of the inner
369circle.
370
371At that moment, each of the disciples must
372have wondered, Which one of us could it
373be? Who could possibly betray the Lord?
374
375STAGING NOTE: Disciples maintain pose as
376each breaks from freeze in turn for
377monologue.
378
379NATHANIEL: My name is Nathaniel. Im
380sometimes called Batholomew. And like
381Peter and Andrew, I, too, am a fisherman.
382I am from the small town of Cana in
383Galilee, where Jesus performed His first
384miracle by turning water into wine. You
385can imagine how amazed we all were when
386the vats of water became the finest wine.
387
388I had been a follower of John the Baptist,
389and believed Johns teaching that the
390Messiah the long awaited Promised Savior
391 would soon be among us.
When John
392introduced me to Jesus at Bethany, and
393later when my good friend Philip told me
394that he believed Jesus was the same man
395the prophets had foretold, I admit that my
396first reaction was disbelief. Could any
397good thing come out of Nazareth, I asked.

599But everything changed for me that day.
600It was a royal occasion for me to
601entertain Jesus and His followers in my
602home. When some of the Pharisees
603complained about Jesus eating with
604publicans and sinners, He said, Those who
605are well have no need of a physician, only
606those who are sick. And He reminded them
607of the words of the prophet Hosea, that
608God desires mercy and not sacrifice. He
609added these significant words of His own
610For I came not to call the righteous, but
611sinners, to repentance.
612
613Since that day when I repented and
614followed Him, I have studied our
615Scriptures closely, and am now convinced
616that Jesus is the fulfillment of every
617possible prophecy about the Messiah
618Gods Anointed. I have listened carefully
619to His sermons. Someday, I hope to write
620a book proving that He is the Messiah
621the One promised in our sacred writings.
622I want to record the magnificent sermon He
623preached about the good news of the
624Kingdom of God the sermon He first
625delivered on the mountain in Galilee three
626years ago. In that message, he delivered
627amazing, even startling news good news
628for all the world. And yet, He has just
629spoken tragic news, that one of us will
630betray Him. Who can it be? Will they
631others suspect me because I was once a
632hated tax-collector? Do I suspect myself?
633Is it I? Is it I?
634
635SIMON THE ZEALOT: I am Simon, the Zealot.
636Before Jesus called me, I belonged to a
637group of hot-headed, blood-thirsty

718CHOIR:
719One day a plain village woman
720Driven by love for her Lord
721Recklessly poured out a valuable essence
722Disregarding the scorn
723
724And once it was broken and spilled out
725A fragrance filled all the room
726Like a prisner released from his shackles
727Like a spirit set free from the tomb.
728
729Broken and spilled out
730Just for love of You, Jesus
731My own precious treasure
732Lavished on Thee
733
(lavished on Thee)
734Broken and spilled out
735And poured at Your feet
736In sweet abandon
737Let me be spilled out and used up for Thee.
738
739Lord, you were Gods precious treasure.
740His love and His own perfect Son.
741Sent here to show me the love of the Father
742Yes, just for love it was done!
743
744And though You were perfect and holy
745
(perfect and holy)
746You gave up Yourself willingly.
747And You spared no expense for my pardon
748You were broken and spilled out
749And wasted for me!
750
751Broken and spilled out
752Just for love of me, Jesus.
753Gods most precious treasure
754Lavished on me.
755Broken and spilled out
756And poured at my feet.
757In sweet abandon
20
21
798
799Everywhere we went, Jesus was constantly
800teaching; while we walked, while we
801fished, in the mountains. I can see Him
802now rebuking the windy storm on Galilee,
803healing the sick, and the diseased,
804opening the blind eyes and the deaf ears,
805cleansing the lepers, and always, always
806telling the good news wherever He went.
807
808But now, opposition has grown to a fevered
809pitch. His enemies are determined to
810destroy Him. And why? Because the God he
811reveals is greater than all their petty
812little manmade gods that fill their hearts
813and temples. He would lift us up to God,
814while they would cut God down to their
815size. He would make us Gods servants,
816while they would make God their servant.
817
818And now He says that even among us, the
819twelve that He has chosen, that there is a
820traitor. Is He speaking of me? It
821couldnt be, could it? Is it I, Lord? Is
822it I?
823
824PHILIP: My name is Philip. Like Andrew
825and Peter, I come from Bethsaida in
826Galilee. It was in Galilee that Jesus
827found me and called me to be His disciple.
828Ive been following Him ever since.
829
830I was the one who went and found Nathaniel
831and told Him that Jesus was the promised
832Messiah. Jesus called him to be a
833disciple too. During the three years now
834that Ive had a close friendship with
835Jesus, my faith in God has grown stronger
836and deeper. Ill never forget the day
837that Jesus fed those 5,000 people with
22
23
878
879JAMES THE GREATER: I am James, the
880brother of John. I followed Jesus with my
881brother after He called us one day almost
882three years ago while we were mending our
883nets by the Sea of Galilee with our
884father, Zebedee. We were honored that
885Jesus wanted us as His disciples, and were
886humbled when He chose both of us to be
887among the twelve.
888
889I was present in Peters home when Jesus
890healed Peters mother-in-law of her fever.
891Later, I was with Him in the home of
892Jairus when Jesus raised his little
893daughter from death. On the Mount of
894Transfiguration, I saw Jesus talking with
895Moses and Elijah.
896
897And its always like that when Im with
898Him. Whenever he is near, I know I am in
899the presence of God standing on Holy
900Ground.
901
902SONG: HOLY GROUND
903
904As I walked in this room, I felt His presence.
905And I knew this was a place where love abounds
906For this is the temple, Jehovah God abides here,
907And we are standing in His presence on Holy Ground.
908
909We are standing on Holy Ground.
910And I know that there are angels all around.
911Let us praise, Jesus now.
912We are standing in His presence on Holy Ground.
913
914In His presence there is joy beyond measure.
915At His feet, peace of mind can still be found.
916If you have a need, I know He has the answer
917Reach out and claim it, for you are standing on Holy Ground.
24
918
919We are standing on Holy Ground
920And I know that there are angels, all around.
921Let us praise Jesus now.
922We are standing in His presence
923We are standing in His presence
924We are standing in His presence on Holy Ground.
925
926JAMES THE GREATER: That is why I know in
927my heart that Jesus is the true Messiah
928that He will establish His kingdom.
929Sometimes, I have grown frustrated that He
930wont exercise the power I know He holds.
931Once, when people in Samaria did not
932receive Jesus as I though He should, my
933brother and I asked Him to call down fire
934from heaven to destroy them. He rebuked
935us as only He could, and taught us that
936Gods way was always one of love. Is it
937any wonder that He sometimes calls us the
938Sons of Thunder. We are both hotheaded
939and strong-willed, and sometimes I marvel
940that He puts up with us at all.
941
942Yet, He is the One who taught me the true
943meaning of love and now, He is about to
944be betrayed by one of those whom he loves.
945Who can it be? Why should one of us do
946such a thing? I keep thinking, deep in my
947own heart, Is it I? Is it I?
948
949PETER: I am Peter. The others sometimes
950refer to me as the big fisherman. My
951brother, Andrew, and I were fishing on the
952Sea of Galilee one afternoon, casting our
953nets into the water, when Jesus walked by
954and said, Follow me, and I will make you
955fishers of men. We immediately left our
956nets and followed Him.
957
25
26
27
28
29
1118
1119The others must have confidence in me,
1120because they elected me as their
1121treasurer. And Jesus surely must have
1122believed in me, because He chose me as one
1123of the twelve. Despite what the others
1124say behind my back, about my impatience
1125and stinginess and ambition, He believed
1126in me. If He hadnt, he would have chosen
1127someone else in my place.
1128
1129Some say that I have appropriated funds
1130for my own use, and that Jesus words
1131about the love of money and greed were
1132personally directed at me. Others keep
1133reminding me that Jesus was referring to
1134me when He said, Did I choose you twelve
1135and one of you is a devil? Of course I
1136complained when Mary dumped that expensive
1137perfume on His feet. I still think it was
1138a waste of money. And if I conspired with
1139the chief priests, and if I have thirty
1140pieces of silver on my person thats my
1141affair.
1142
1143You have to understand. I believe in
1144Jesus but someone has to force the
1145issue, make Him assert Himself as Gods
1146Messiah. He refused to make a move.
1147Well, Ive made one. He hints that He
1148knows what Ive done.
He said so when He
1149washed my feet a few moments ago, and when
1150we dipped our bread in the same dish. But
1151I have my reasons.
1152
1153My soul isnt as black as some may think
1154it is nor is your soul as white! What
1155would you do if you were in my place and
1156wanted Him to do something dramatic and

1240Now we are healed
1241He was bruised
1242Now we have life
1243What was our punishment
1244He took upon Himself

1253He took upon Himself
1254And became Gods sacrifice.

1256Satan thought hed won the victory
1257Jesus came back to life
1258Holding the keys!

1277Because of Calvary
1278Well live eternally
1279Praise Him for His sacrifice.
1280
1281JESUS: Take now and eat. (LIFTS THE CUP)
1282This cup is the new covenant of my blood,
1283which is poured out for you.
1284
1285STAGING NOTE: Ushers will pass the cup to
1286the congregation. Apostles react to each
1287other and Jesus.
1288
1289SONG: WHEN I SURVEY THE WOUNDROUS CROSS
1290
1291CHOIR:
1292When I survey the wondrous cross
1293On which the Prince of Glory died
1294My richest gain I count but loss
1295And pour contempt on all my pride
1296
1297Forbid it Lord that I should boast
1298Save in the death of Christ my God
1299All the vain things that charm me most
1300I sacrifice them to His blood.
1301
1302See, from His head, His hands, His feet
1303Sorrow and love flow mingled down
1304Did eer such love and sorrow meet
1305Or thorns compose so rich a crown
1306
1307Were the whole realm of nature mine
1308That were a present far too small
1309Love so amazing, so divine
1310Demands my soul, my life, my all
1311
1312JESUS: Take now and drink. (puts down
1313the cup, rises to leave) I tell you, I
1314will not drink of this fruit of the vine
1315again until that day when I drink it anew
1316with you in my Fathers Kingdom.
34
1317
1318STAGING NOTE: -- During final song, Jesus
1319embraces the disciples and exits. They
1320watch in silence as He leaves back up the
1321center aisle.
1322
1323SONG: AT CALVARY:
1324
1325CHOIR:
1326Years I spent in vanity and pride
1327Caring not my Lord was crucified
1328Not knowing that it was for me He died
1329On Calvary
1330
1331By Gods word at last my sin I learned
1332Then I trembled at the law Id spurned
1333Until my guilty soul imploring turned
1334To Calvary
1335
1336Mercy there was great and grace was free!
1337Pardon there was multiplied to me
1338There, my burdened soul found liberty
1339At Calvary
1340
1341Now, Ive given to Jesus everything.
1342Now, I gladly own Him as my King
1343Now, my raptured soul can only sing
1344Of Calvary
1345Of Calvary
1346
1347Oh, the love that drew salvations plan
1348Oh wondrous grace that brought it down to man
1349Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary
1350
1351Mercy there was great and grace was free
1352Pardon there was multiplied to me
1353There, my burdened soul found liberty
1354At Calvary
1355
1356There my burdened soul found liberty
35
1357At Calvary!
