1. THESIS STATEMENT

Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to make it
evident in your thesis statement.

Womens rights and equality could not be where it is today without the proficient work
of iconic women such as Susan B. Anthony and Sojourner Truth.

2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT

Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact? Why is it
historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings?

Our main focus of the project was womens rights (1850s). During this period, women
created groups to help rebel and gain rights. They held rebellions, boycotts, and made
speeches to show that they deserve the same respect as men. After all the effort that they
put into receiving what they believed was right, women gained many rights showing that
they are not considered less than men. Overall, women such as Susan B. Anthony,
Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucretia Mott all contributed a large
amount to womens rights movements. They all devoted their time and determination to
help others receive rights. We wouldnt have the rights we do today if it wasnt for them.

Leadership: Women stood up to protest and rebel for their rights.

Legacy: Women are well known for creating movements and gaining the rights
fought for.

4. PROCESS
A. What historical question did you start off withand how did it change once you began doing
your research?

We started off with what movements have had a large impact on society? It
changed once we found more information about these different movements. We
change the question to how did discrimination cause the want to have equal
rights?
B. What kinds of sources did you use as evidence to develop your argument (for example,
letters, photographs, government documents, interviews, etc.)?

We used letters, speeches, photos, and journal entries to help develop our
argument.
C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your argument.
Sojourner Truths speech exemplified how she got people to listen to her thoughts on
discrimination. She talks about her struggles and what mental/physical state she was in. This
helps show that women took a chance to create a change by gathering women to discuss
things that they could do. All these women took action to try and gain rights that they
deserve.
