MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation)


Preamble:
MEDEVAC is a process of transporting an injured person from scene of
accident to Hospital by quickest possible procedure.
ASSOCIATED GAS AND OIL COMPANY LIMITED sequence of MEDEVAC is as
follows:

Procedure for Medical Evacuation


When ill health occurs or injury is sustained offshore the following procedure
shall apply:
1)

The HSE Officer and Medic on board shall assess the injured or ill patient.

2)

If there is a need to send the patient(s) for further medical attention, the
barge captain and client representative on barge shall be contacted
immediately

3)

Client Representative will take responsibility to arrange for helicopter to


convey the injured person.

4)

Concurrently, ASSOCIATED GAS AND OIL COMPANY LIMITED Port Harcourt


Office shall be notified by phone giving details of the patient(s) injuries or
illness.

5)

The HSE Officer on the barge shall call the retainer clinic if possible or ask
ASSOCIATED GAS AND OIL COMPANY LIMITED Port Harcourt Office to
contact the Retainer Clinic by phone passing on the information. The
stand by ambulance shall be contacted stating pick up point and the
expected arrival time. The ambulance shall be dispatched with a nurse on
board to pick up the patient(s) to the retainer clinic. Our retainer clinic is
Kendox Medical Services.

The Captain, located on the Jack up barge, is the On- Scene Incident
Commander (OSIC) and his duties include:
Communicate the response plan to the Operation Manager and his

emergency response teams,


Ensure implementation of response plan,
Coordinate work activities during the emergency,
Ensure the work activity does not add to the existing situation,
Determine if work activities may proceed during the response to the
incident.
Assign tasks to the crew members on what role each to play during
emergencies

Emergency Crews:
The barge has established trained emergency response crews who will
respond under the guidance of the Captain.
Respond to the emergency under the direction of the Captain,
Provide assistance to the Captain or Supervisor to mitigate the
incident.
