City of music
PHOTOS BY NIKI CHEONG
SALZBURG, Austria, is not only home to one of the greatest musicians Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but also the
home of famed musical-turned-movie The Sound of Music.
However, at the mention of the city, most people would
associate it with beautiful views of the Alps.
Indeed, Salzburg is located in a valley and all around it
are snow-capped mountains. The Untersberg in particular
is famous because it was used as the opening and closing
scene in the said movie. But walking around the city, the
romance of Europe is ripe and the cool evening breeze signifying the end of summer is a breath of fresh air. One
thing that sticks to mind is the number of palaces there

are in and at the peripherals of Salzburg city. This is attributed to the numerous Prince-Archbishops who ruled the
city centuries ago.
The most prominent landmark is of course the beautiful
fortress Festung Hohensalzburg that overlooks the city
both old and new. Just opposite that and equally high up
is the interesting Museum of Modern Art that consists of
the most interesting displays to do with the performing
arts.
But if youre looking to chill and relax at a beautiful
sight, then the Mirabellgarten (Mirabell Garden) is a notto-be-missed stop.
Here are just some of the beautiful sights taken in historic, and cultured Salzburg.
