Wholeness Wheel
During the year, my focus for the newsletter articles will be upon the wholeness wheel. I will continually have
the image of the wholeness wheel with these reflections so that you will be able to reference the entire wheel
and it will be a reminder about the overall nature of this image. For even as I talk about a specific aspect, you
always need to be reminded that each aspect of the wheel is just one part that makes up the whole. For in our
lives, while we have different parts or aspectsall of these make up our entire life and when one part is neglected and not being attended to it can impact our overall life.
As I look at the wheel, the first thing that jumps out to me is the centerIn baptism a new creation in
CHRIST. I think that it is significant that at the center is the concept of baptism. Baptism is God washing
and claiming humanity as his own. I see this in the liturgy when after the pouring of water over the person being baptized, oil is put on the individuals forehead with the wordschild of God, you have been sealed by
the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Baptism becomes a source of our identity as children of God.
Since baptism gives us an identity as a child of God,
this leads to the question about what God desires for
us. What does it mean that we are a child of God?
The passage that always comes to my mind with this
question is John 10:10 (I came that they may have life,
and have it abundantly.) The notion of abundant life is
not only about life everlasting, but also includes the
idea of having abundancy within our lives in the here
and now. This is what the wholeness wheel seeks to
do. Help us to think about all of the different aspects
of our lives, in order that our life may be the best that
it can beand not just spiritually, but wholistically.
Thus, as we reflect in the upcoming months about the
different parts of the wholeness wheelall these parts
are rooted in baptism and Gods desire for us to have
an abundant life now and always.

Upcoming Worship
Below are the lessons and some thoughts about the upcoming Sundays.
Please take some time to look over the lesson and reflect upon the questions in preparation of the upcoming weeks in worship.
st
February 1 :
Text Matthew 6:7-21
Today our text is again from the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is instructing the disciples about prayer as he gives them
the Lords Prayer as a way to pray. He continues on focusing upon how we live our lives with regard to issues of forgiving others, how we fast, and about storing up treasures in life.
February 8th:
Text Matthew 14:13-33
In addition to hearing some of Jesus teachings, we hear of Jesus miracles. Today, we learn about Jesus feeding the
5000, walking on water, and stilling the wind. These miracles help us to understand who Jesus is and the power that he
holds. He has power over the natural elements of this world.
February 15th:
Text Matthew 16:24-28; 17:1-17
Jesus teaches about discipleship and the challenge of wanting to follow him. Jesus warns the people that in order to follow, they must deny themselves and forfeit their life. After teaching about the cost of discipleship, Jesus goes with Peter, James and John to a high mountain where he is transfigured and has Moses and Elijah appear with him. All this
helps us to understand who Jesus is and why he came to be with humanity.
February 22nd:
TextMatthew 18:15-35
Today, we hear of Jesus teaching about forgiveness. He instructs people about if someone sins against you, how you handle the situation. He also addresses the question of how much do we forgive a person. Jesus drives his point about forgiveness home by using a parable about a king who is settling accounts with a servant who had forgiveness extended to
him, but would not forgive someone who owed him a much smaller amount.

SENIOR CARE:
The Care Team Family Care Fund was established in 2010 primarily to help families within our
congregation and immediate community who are
in need of emergency monetary assistance due to
a crisis situation. We have provided monetary assistance for basic needs such as groceries and
utilities, as well as transportation costs involved in
visiting family members in major hospitals. Donations are needed to replenish the account so funds
will be available for future needs. Please consider
contributing by giving cash or a check to: SPLC
Care Team Family Care.

COLLECTION
DURING
LENT
Along the wall between the nursery and the library you will find two collection boxes for gently
used and new books appropriate for reading levels 1st through 7th grade. Books will be donated to
Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Reading Camp , a
week long summer camp devoted to struggling
readers. The books collected at St. Paul will be
given to attendees to take home with them after
camp, and used to practice their skills throughout
the summer. This is a great opportunity to weed
books from your childs collection he/she may
have outgrown, and pass them on to benefit another child! If you have questions about donating

Community Diner
The Community Diner has expanded their services. The Community Diner is now serving meals
every Monday at the First United Methodist
Church. Because of offering more meals every
month, they are looking for people to volunteer to
help with these meals. There are two shifts for
each Monday. The first shift is from 2:30-4:30. This
shift prepares and cooks the meals getting everything ready to serve. The second shift is from 4:306:30. This shift serves the meal and cleans up after
the meal.
The Community Diner is looking for individuals to
help as well as groups that might be willing to oversee an entire meal. If you would like to volunteer or
would like more information, please talk with Pastor
Steve.
TONER CARTRIDGEWe have a toner cartridge
Brother TN-330 available in the office for anyone
interested. Please talk to Michelle.
Lenten Services
During the Season of Lent, we will be offering
Wednesday Night services. The first Wednesday
service on February 18 is our Ash Wednesday
worship at 7:00 p.m. The service will include the
imposition of ashes and holy communion.
The rest of the Wednesday night services will be
brief (lasting about a half hour) with hymns and a
short message focusing upon What It Means to
be Church.
These services will begin at 7:00 PM. There will
be a meal prior to the service beginning at 5:30
PM. A short hymn sing prior to the service will
begin at 6:50 PM.
Communion During
the Season of Lent
The season of Lent is a time of reflection upon
the suffering of Jesus. Lent is also a time of
preparation to celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Receiving Holy Communion is a
great way to help us to focus upon Jesus sacrifice and His work upon the cross.
By offering Holy Communion more often is a
way of seeking to live out one of our core values which is spirituality. Hence, we will offer
Holy Communion at both services during the
entire season of Lent.
Any questions, please talk with Pastor Steve.
